Why is it that no other industry does this?

Do the automakers sue MotorTrend for the spy pix they take?

The more important question is what are they suing about.

Does this all but confirm the so-called iPod micro? That is the only thing I have heard any real rumors about.

Partly because it increases the hype for the automakers, but they would sue or have arrested anybody who steals their secrets for profit. There is a lot of industrial espionage and it can hurt a company badly. I think Apple sues a lot because they do invent new products and start trends and if information comes out too soon they might lose the edge. Dell and MS would love to get the jump on Apple.

How do you know automakers, or other industries, don't sue for similar breaches of confidentiality? If a person doesn't spend their time in Apple news and discussion boards they would most likely never hear of these type of stories.

Taking "spy-pics" of cars in public isn't stealing anything. The car is in the open and it just sounds sexy to say spy.

Actually they did. Ford sued a magazine for publishing photos of a ford card on a test track. It was a landmark case and Ford lost.
