AMD 64 in April?

Looks like Apple wont have the first 64bit desktop on the market...



Not that I think it'll have any impact on sales..

    Yeah. I saw that before.



    Well, I think it is a good thing. It only increases the pressure for Apple to do something about their 'power'Macs.



    Imagine it's April. That's only 3 and a half months to wait for the 970's (hopefully...) intro' at Macworld New York?



    The 970 shouldn't be too far behend the Sledgehammer. 970 1.8 gig vs x86 Hammer's 2 gig?



    A nice 64 bit contest. And 'power'Macs won't be a whole gig behind. (Fingers crossed...)

    well besides slight increase in speed, will it matter since windows is 32bit?



    does anyone know if longhorn is supposed to be 64bit?

    Well.. OSX at present is also 32 bit as far as anyone knows..



    MS has promised AMD a 64 bit version of XP. And yes, Longhorn is supposed to be 64 bit.

    well i'm hoping 10.3 is 64bit!

    Sun has delivered 64-bit desktops for a while now.. They're really affordable too, the only quirk is that you must use Linux or Solaris.. not my cup of tea.

    We have a few of those 500 MHz Blade 100s. The price and specs have stayed virtually the same for 2 years. Affordable, yes. Grossly underpowered, yes. A couple of the Seagate ATA drives in them have died already. These USPARC IIe chips also run at 60 degrees celsius when the motherboard is only 30 degrees... !!



    At $1000 with no monitor, they really aren't worth it. Originally, we planned to buy 10 in 2001, and 10 later to replace some really old Sun Ultra 1s. There's no way we'd buy Blades over eMacs or microATX based mini PCs today however...
