Not to jump back on topic but I gotta agree that Apple's current displays are a horrible deal. Sure they look great next to a G4, but when you look at price, warranty, and brightness, they are trailing in all three areas. I know Viewsonic, Sony, and NEC all make 17" diaplays in the $500-$700 range that have 3 year warranty (1 year for Apple is pathetic) and also have brightness and contrast ratios far better than anything Apple is offering. Looks aside, Apple display's dont seem to have any competitive edge.
And you forgot Apple's absolutely horrid policy regarding dead pixels. If they're spread around the screen, Apple flatly refuses to replace a screen with as many as ten, TEN! That's plainly unacceptable. Formac will replace any of it's panels if they have as few as two, TWO dead or stuck pixels anywhere on the display and they change it for you.

I also think its fargin retarded and limits Apple's market to just Apple users. Hello? 97% of the market is NOT Apple! Aim for a larger market, Cupertino Boys. Then you won't have to charge me $99 for .Mac to make up for your revenue shortfall.

I think Apple's problem is when they first release something it is competitive but they dont revise things quickly enough. Especially on the iMac and PowerMac.

Apple's displays are way overpriced and resellers have been complaining for quite a while, that's where all the rebates came from. Apple pushes resellers HARD especially Specialists about making sure there is a monitor for every Power Mac sold. Resellers bitched about the prices so then you have rebates.
If the prices I am hearing about the upcoming monitors are true, then I do not think Apple is listening to its resellers and that is unfortunate (even though they have specifically told resellers that the next revision will be priced competitively).
Apple's new 20" at $1,300 is value for money and does represent competition in the marketplace.
Not only that but it's actually higher resolution than the 22" it replaces, at almost 50% discount.
Mooseman - you're just getting too involved with the analogy. Mine was just an off the cuff remark about branding, which is what others were discussing - not power sources.
If you want to get really logical about it we'd say that the analogy was entirely false anyway because computers aren't cars, right?
WOO-HOO!!! OMG, Damn you Apple! I ask for a well-priced 20" LCD display and you deliver, and then tempt me by lowering the HD Cinema Display to $1999!!! DAMN YOU!!!!
I can't believe those prices. I can't. I'm too shocked to even evaluate how low they are. I have the cinema display and paid $2500 for it. That's the day it was lowered from $3500. So, now i can get a HD, greater rez and another inch for $500 less!?!?!?

Well, no new form factor or VESA mounting... but DAMN, those prices are tempting. Apple should sell a lot of those 23" 'ers. That's the best price for an HD monitor anywhere at the moment.
I have one concern thou. I have a Cube with a Radeon card and by looking at the requirements it looks like you have to have at least a Radeon 7500 or GeForce2MX to drive the new 20.1" monitor. This monitor is perfect for me but why can't I drive it with my Radeon card? Doesn't it support that widescreen resolution or what? It has 32MB of memory on the card so that shouldn't be the problem. It seems like I have to buy a new graphics card to be able to use this monitor
I was amazed by the total revamp to the laptop line in terms of spec and pricing. Really competitive to the Wintel world.
