Surprise under your seat at the Keynote

Everyone probably remembers a few years ago what Steve Jobs left for the audience under their seats at the keynote. Well the question gets asked everytime there are new announcements, will a new mouse be unveiled? Normally I would dismiss them since last time it took apple a long time to upgrade their hockey puck mouse. Well Apple has finally given us what we all wanted, two buttons, and a scroll wheel. When i first heard about this I wasn't sure i believed it, but then I heard from one of our reps today about some really good deals on the apple optical mouse. So putting the two together it made sense that since they are coming out with the new mice, they would need to get rid of the old ones. Wish i could say more to convince you, but if you can make it to the keynote i think you will be greatly rewarded.

    I'd love to be able to dump my ugly, huuuuuuge, cheesy-silver Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer for an Apple one. But since OS X recognizes right-clicks and scroll wheels. I won't go back to a mouse with 1 button and no scroll wheel.



    It's the one decision on Apple's part that I don't understand. I mean, yes it makes it easier for Grandma to operate her iMac, but perhaps Apple could make two mice or something. The standard-issue one that ships with all Macs currently and a $49 "Pro" one with two buttons and a scroll wheel? I could live with that. Just an idea though.

    That was there already. He (She) gave birth to a child during a procession and was the arrested and I think executed. Several hundred years ago though.

    Although we would all love to see a two button, scroll wheel mouse from Apple, I do not think it is going to happen and here is why. The Mac market is relatively small compared to the PC market, so obviously, Apple needs as much support as they can get. This means that having companies make peripherals for the Mac is a GOOD thing.



    If Apple had a two button, scroll wheel mouse, would I have bought my Logitech mouse? No. Would Ybot have bought his Microsoft mouse? No. If Apple did this it could possibly mean losing support from hardware companies, and that would be a BAD thing.



    I'm not saying I wouldn't want a two button Apple mouse, just that in the grand scheme of things it's probably not the best of ideas.

    Steve turns out to be Mullah Omar and vows to destroy the infidel and then the USAF proceeds to bombing the keynote off the face of the earth.     Two buttons and a scroll wheel seem like a good idea to me. But it's gonna be a bitch if you own a laptop and everything then gets designed with the new mouse in mind.



    Still, PC makers all have to get their mice from someone, and it doesn't seem to slow sales of their mice to the PC crowd. Granted most systems come with horrible mice. Apple would probably supply a quite beautiful, comfortable, high quality mouse. Actually with 2 buttons and a scroll wheel, I could see Apple picking up a lot of sales to PC people. A nice way to get some extra revenue, I think!

    It was discussed somewhere else, but the aft rocking motion would be hell on the wrist. Also not very intuitive since most people rest their wrists on the table while using the mouse.

    Remember the clones? I don't think Steve's first concern is outside companies.



    I wish, no I pray, Apple releases a two button mouse. No, it's not for me. I have a Macally 2 buttoner with a scroll wheel that works quite nicely. No, I wish for it soley to muzzle the PC users at my school. The most frequent complain, by miles and miles, about Macs is their inability to "right click." People constantly complain Macs "are impossible to use" because they "don't even have a right clicker." Yes, that's what they say.



    Give us a second button, and shut up the morons!
