I say go for it now... I'm sure you and XP will be very happy (so long as you don't connect it to the net).

That bug didn't happen to everyone (not by a longshot since I have installed iTunes on my 3 cubes 2 G4 towers and 1 TI book plus an iMac) but that MS security hole in XP is on EVERY XP machine that has shipped-out and/or user-upgraded. Big difference if you ask me.

I understand... I feel very frustrated about the current pace of the hardware progression and the price tag of the machines as well.

Word. XP is a joke of an OS that was rushed out the door with huge gaping holes in it. OS X may not have had CD burning & DVD playback at first but at least it didnt allow hackers 100% control of the machine when connected to the internet. LMAO !!!!!!

Well, not YET. Saying that because there is no known hole means there is no hole at all is a gaping fallacy. The fact is the an OS is a monstrously complicated piece of software engineering and as such is bound to have flaws. Point in case, even though it wasn't net-exploitable and so wasn't nearly as severe, there was a security flaw in OSX which let anyone trivially assume root privileges while at the machine via the netinfo manager IIRC. (Did they fix that?)

This is funny There's no way in HELL I would ever buy anything other than a mac I just thought I'd post this and see what the peeps had to say. I guess that's how I feel inside and tell myself I'll do it if Apple doesn't "put out" ! But I know I'd drop $3500 just to get laid by the lady G5 I'm pretty sure I'll not be buying from Apple till the G5 comes along - But if Apple keeps giving me blue balls and I'm horney enough...... I just might blow my load <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

Sahara IBM G-3 and Apollo G-4???Over 1 GHz...

So how is Apple going to kick ass in 2002?

By selling a computer for $1,000.00?

Motorola G-5 8500 wait until Sept. 2002 By then

AMD will be well over 2 GHZ and G-5 1.6 Mhz.

For $1,200.00 you can get alot of computer in the

    Windows world.Including 64 Megs of VRAM on a 3-D card.CDRW/DVD etc..I was going to invest $5,000

in apple stock..but the flat panel iMac will not sell enough units. When the G-4 came out their stock went to $95.00/share.But no G-5....

They say Steve Jobs can be a real pain.Except when he is with Bill Clinton.I guess it is the wacky weed.

Not quite. The FBI is not so sure about Microsofts patch and wants all users to disable plug and play within the operating system.
