Hi, I'm new here and not sure if this is the correct forum, but I have some questions regarding Final Cut Express 2:

If I don't yet have a DV camera with footage to upload on my Mac, how can I get some to begin learning video editing? Is there somewhere I can get some raw footage? Does the software have any templates to use for tutorials, etc.?

Hmm. You can download any decent-sized movie trailer, and use that, but you won't be able to use real-time effects in real-time, because it's not in the DV format. I bet there's some in one of the iMovie tutorials, take it out of there and put it into FC.

Congrats on your purchase, it's an AWESOME app.

What Placebo said. I bought FCE for the same reason. I started by downloading quicktime movies from the internet. Next I got a digital camera that could shoot quicktime movies. That was 2 years ago, I still don't have a DV camera today.

you could always spend the 44.95 and pick up a copy of the apple pro training series final cut express. it includes a dvd of lessons and makes you work through the application to get the most out of the learning experience.

I used these books and took the cert exams for FCP, Motion and DVDSP

great tools lead to better proficiency of the app

Actually, now that it has HD support, I'll be damned if I can come up with any differences other than the nerfed keyframe support in FCE.

if your quicktime files are compressed with the DV/DVCPRO codec or whatever, final cut pro and express will not have to render them as they read that codec natively.
