My new 1 GB shuffle came and my imac doesn't like it. About halfway thru the upload, the itunes crashed(ball of death). I had to force quit the computer as itunes could not be forced to quit. After restart, the computer said that the shuffle was being used by another user on the same computer. I am the only user. I ran disc warrior and also repaired permissions with disk utility, and finally restored the ipod. Repeated the process and the same result (ball of death with about half of the upload complete). I used my other computer to test the shuffle and it did not have any trouble with the upload. Not the shuffle causing the prob..How do I figure out the itunes problem. I would like to throw the itunes app away and reisntall but am weary of losing my music(>30 GB). I had a major directory crash last year and my computer was never really the same. Do I have a corrupt file in itunes that is causing a crash....I also have music in the appropriate music folder that itunes won't recoginze. Sorry so long winded.

I had a problem myslef with corrupted files. Go down the list of files (select the top one and press the down arrow). Make sure the album art is on selected song and not playing. If a file is corrupted it will crash the computer when you browse. If you copy the itunes library file then the corrupted file will not go away and this wont help keep your ratings etc. However, if you find the song that crashes the computer just delete it (put it in the trash and erase) this will solve the problem.

If you do need to re-install itunes then you will not lose the music as it is in the music folder of your home directory. Make usre your using iTunes 4.7.1 as well.

Hope this helps, I've got to rush cos my gf is getting annoyed at me!

they way i did it was by clicking on the first song and pressing the down arrow until iTunes crashes - it will crash on the corrupted song. I don't know another way, sorry!
