Did Safari get "broken" by recent security/OS updates

I was just wondering if anyone else here has been having a lot of crashing problems with Safari lately, after applying the most recent updates (since about Jan)? Mines will crash several times a day just by refreshing a webpage or just sitting there doing nothing at all. Prior to January updates, it was rock solid for me.

What's the deal?

There have been reports of pop-up blocking not working for a lot of people, although it's hard to pinpoint what has actually caused it to stop working. It could be a security update.

Anyone else getting popups when they visit these boards or am I the only one?

Safari has been crashing so much since the last, or recent, update(s) that I've switched over to Firefox.

I am too. AI has had popups for a while as i use a PC to browse them at college, and IE don't block 'em! But lately the AI ones haven't been bloacked by Safari...

I got frustrated enough to download the latest Netscape, but strangely, it won't even start-up w/o crashing. It seemed oddly reminiscent of a MS+IE manuever, but I'm probably just being paranoid. Any other program seems to run just fine, as well as the overall system OS. It's just internet browsers. :? That is with the exception of IE, which seems to continue running just fine (and is the original version since this thing was installed). Ironic, eh?

I concur. One type of pop-under is no longer blocked by Safari and I see them on Mac sites from time to time. Strange that this would happen.

I've been having crashes recently and the occasional pop under.

The errors have been something like:

    EXC_BAD_ACCESS

    KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS

You have it backwards. A new type of pop-under has succeeded in beating Safari. Since the technique is new, it should not be surprising that Safari does not yet block it.

Me too. I was browsing these forums today, and all of a sudden my Ti-Book went sluggish. I looked at the graph in my menu bar which tells me my CPU load, and it was full.

I had nothing else open, and plenty of RAM, so I hit the F9 key only to discover some piece of shit kicking, good for nutt'n, cock sucking, casino ad.

"No I don't want to *** play some black jack at your crappy little site, f*ck face. Now die mofo!"

One hit of the little red button in the top left corner of that window soon nuked the little bugger, though... Waste my clock cycles...

I'd suspect that 100% of all AI users would not respond to these pop ups that keep occurring.

    I agree.

This isn't fun anymore. The pop-up ads on this site have gone from an annoying curiosity to just plain annoying. As I entered the site this morning, I was met with a pop-up that disabled my cursor. Look it. We enable pop-up blocking because we don't like pop-ups. We are not going to buy from advertisers who use them. It is time for AppleInsider decide if the little money it gets for these ads is worth alienating its subscribers. If AI thinks that pop-ups are a good idea, it is free to embed conventional pop-ups that don't bypass our blockers. The subscribers who want them or who don't care will still see them. AI's current path, however, is ultimately self-defeating. We will stop visiting sites that believe they can flaunt our wishes with impunity.

    Enough is enough.

That must have been what I came across when I clicked the link for this thread in my email... Somehow the irony is lost on me.

Pop-ups? What are these pop-ups people speak of? Never seen one

I wonder if it's my pith helmet. (Installed and forgot about)

PithHelmet is a Safari plug-in, but Safari is not my primary browser. I have nothing against Safari, per se. I just didn't switch primary browsers when Safari debuted. Given a choice between my primary browser and AppleInsider, AppleInsider goes.

FWIW, I was not confronted with one of those nasty pop-ups when logged into AppleInsider this time. Let us hope things stay this way.

Safari is my main browser on my PB and I noticed a couple of days ago when I came to this site(I have been lurking for awhile now) that I would also get a pop up. Today though it didn't happen.

I haven't had any crashing issues at all though.

I've been getting pop-unders on two specific sites, including drudgereport.com

I've hit the bug button to report to Apple. I hope they fix it soon because I had taken a pop-up/under-free browsing experience for granted.

Strangely (or not), I have not seen any new pop-ups under Safari, just using the standard built-in blocker. Is it possible the pop-ups you guys are seeing are Flash related? I disabled my Flash plug-in long ago (for other reasons). That would be the first explanation I'd check into as to why you guys are having pop-up problems and I have seen none.
