Inexpensive multiple HD firewire backup system

I've been shopping around for an expensive solution to backup our computers via network and firewire.

goal is to have about 800gb to 1TB of storage split across 2 or 4 drives where half the drives would mirror eachother as extra redundancy.

I like the lacie big disk 1tb solution but I don't like that its not easy to change out a failed drive.

I like Wiebetech Quad BayDock because they are hot swappable and i can buy it empty for 600 bucks and put in my own drives (more expensive then lacie but more versatile and gives HD status)

Keeping it under a grand would be nice.

Also is it possible to back up to firwire disk over network from different computers on same network?

Any ideas? anything cheaper? anything better but a little more expensive? Am I crazy?
