Anyone know if they will update the iMac Classic line?

Anyone heard if they will keep the classic iMac line and update it in any way? (The G3 iMacs,that is).

Even if it's for the education line.

If not, what's going to become of it?

No, They will never update this line again... The emac has taken over in education anyways...

I think it would be kind of stupid to upgrade the iMac G3 line. I also think it would be even more stupid for them to get rid of it right now. Apple needs to sell these for $400-$600. The technology in them is so outdated that there's no reason not to (they don't even have CD burners in them!!!). I would buy one of these instantly if they were in that price range. Right now my sister and my mom are stuck on a Pentium (1 or 2) 300Mhz piece of sh*t. It only has 3 GB of harddrive space! The iMac G3 would be PERFECT for them. It doesn't take up space, it's quiet, and is perfectly capable of running OS X for Word documents, iTunes, and the internet (which is all that my mother and sister do on the computer that keeps crashing on them right now. The old iMac is also very capable of burning CDs (with external burner since Apple decided to even make the maching that much cheaper and still not cut down the price), importing digital photos, and even editing movies using iMovie.

What Apple has to do if they're going to keep it around is lower the price to $400 and give it a 800MHz-1GHz G3.

I would standardize the eMac for education/consumer to take the G3 and G4 chips. This would keep the development cost down and still allow the lower cost 800 G3 to be used at $599, the 1 GHz G4 at $699 and $899 with super drive.

imac2 15 incher replaces it.

Deep price cut in the Summer.

Or at the least, DEEP cuts on the eMac replacing the iMac1.

imac2 15 incher occupies the current eMac entry price come September.

According to Stagflation Steve, Apple will sell the old iMac to schools for about $450 a pop. That sounds about right. I think it'll stick around for a while. It might go edu-only once the eMac reaches the $799 price point (and I do think that Apple is trying to get it down there). However, I really don't see Apple updating it. Yeah, but you have to be buying several hundred to get that type of pricing, otherwise it is just $30 to $50 off retail

I see many class iMacs in furniture shops. These computers really do make the furniture look good.

The deal is very rarely that good. I think you have to buy a lot of gumdrops to get a deal like that. Our edu pric list (institutional not individual prices) hardly gives a deal at all on the little CRT. We're looking at an utterly insane 1100 Canadian (or about 700USD) for those. Utter crap. If we have to go to the rep and agree to buy more than we want/need in order to get the price down from comical to merely inflated we can just look elsewhere and waste neither time nor money. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[oyvey]" />

This thing ought to be the 299-399 Walmart antiPC or they should just get rid of it.

price lists mean shit...always have.

if you are an apple school/distrit whatever... they give you awesome deals

499 was a price they were selling them for 2 years ago

The $499 iMac were the then low end education model available in New York and Washington DC after 9/11.

How many do you have to buy to get that price. Price lists mean quite a lot to us as we have a hard time doing any better than the price list. mebbe 50-60 bucks and they want us to buy A FRIGGIN LOT of 'em before they approach the concept with more than veiled disdain for our budgetary concerns.

Then what is it? Is it a zombie? The iBook is soon to move to a G4 chip, the eMac is basically a classic iMac with a G4, and (hopefully) by July or Fall or whatever, the G3 will be3 generationsbehind the powermac. Thats a bit much.
