This is borrowed from a different forum, and it's for informational purposes only. All credits go to Jerome Bettis from Ubuntu Forums for writing the original how-to.

Now that we got that out of the way, follow this if you want to block 99% of ads that show up in the sites you visit.

Requirements: Firefox 1.0.x For Linux, Mac, or Windows

1. Install the ChromEdit extension available here: https://addons.update.mozilla.org/ex...=Windows&id=17

2. Restart firefox

3. Open this link: http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/adblock and copy all of the text you see there.

4. Go to Tools > Edit user files. Click the userContent.css tab up top.

5. Clear/Delete the text found there, and paste what you copied in step #3.

6. Restart Firefox and voi·lÃ*.

I just use AdBlock and filter stuff by hand (built up quite a nice list by now). I'll try your method on the next system I set up with Firefox, it looks awesome.

Me too untill I found these filter rules, now I just update the rules from this site once every 2-4 months or whenever I get ads.

Those are pretty good, I start with those as well on fresh installs. But I have a ton of stuff added that it seems to miss. (And also stuff it wouldn't have because of website obscurity.)

Well, I don't see any more ads. Not even on OSNews with its notorious flash ads.
