What some of us really need is throughput. For eleven years we have used Mac based Avids for editing at the post house where I work. Today, the owner wrote a check to Avid to buy 3 new PC based Avids. Yes that is right Windows XP Avids. The reason? The PC systems can handle 11 streams of standard def video right now. No Mac can do that yet and no one knows when/if Avid will deliver the promised hardware. Overall performance is superior at every level. No dropped frames with the PC's.
Of course the whole story has to include the fact that Avid has slowed down their Mac software development since Apple released Final Cut. We have FInal Cut HD too, but it also needs better hardware. And it is also still is bug and glitch prone sometimes.
Come on Apple make a Mac we can be proud of again! Without rigged speed tests please. We'll never get our Mac Avids back, but maybe FCPHD will scream on the new hardware.
Here ye here ye. Apple Listen to this man. "Come on Apple make a Mac we can be proud of again! "
Does Apple have different arms of its operation working on different sections, (eg. one for laptops and one for desktops?) I ask this because how close together is it possible to have new updates coming out, (given that eMacs, iMacs, iBooks and PowerMacs are all due for updates soon.)
That will definitely NOT happen. Dual PCI-E slots on the bottom end, 6800GT on the midrange... that card alone retails for 450 (not apple's prices)... that's 1/4 the price right there. Then dual mp procs? Price just doesn't fit apple... or them putting 6800GT in their midline. That's a top 4 card right now. I'd expect more like a 6600gt or x700 in the midrange. Dual PCI-E slots I completely doubt, but perhaps in their high end machine.
I sure hope you're correct about the NAB part. That would break apple's 1 year release cycles on the powermac.

You're right and the MPC8461 will arrive in Q1/2006.
If Apple has Tiger coming out in the next few weeks and G5/G6 at NAB, what will Steve be showing us at the keynote of the wwdc? He can't just sit there twiddling his thumbs for 2 hours saying BOOM every now and again. Maybe a sneak peak at os 10.5 that could be free upgrade in a year to kill off anything longhorn has that Tiger misses out on (which isnt much).
Not a chance. They've stated publicly (and in financial forecast meetings, where there is a certain amount of legal responsibility to be honest about such things) that the upgrade cycle is expected to slow to 18-20 months for the next couple of iterations.
They have the foundation built, and can start to push some of the more interesting technologies like CoreImage/Video, CoreData, Spotlight, Automator... these are all going to be a massive new toychest for developers to play with.
Remember, WWDC is a *DEVELOPER* conference, it's not a *USER* conference. While they have unveiled new consumer products there, they have tended to be those that offer developers new opportunities, not just refreshes and the like.

Just my opinion and I may be wrong but there will be no dual core machines.. why ?
Marketing.. there is no way of making a distinction in peoples minds between a "dual 2.5" and a "dual, dual core 2.5"

Is that a prediction or your wish list?

That alone would be a sign of hope for things to come, but catching the perfect wave usually isn't that easy.

No-Airport Extreme
BT 2.0-a must in my opinion, as the PMG5 has been stuck with the 1.1 standard.
