Free (Apple) alternative to TextEdit - FYI

If like me you want a good graphical plain text editor but have found TextEdit to be a pain in the arse (defaults to RTF & if you open a file with HTML it renders it, rather than showing source)

Then install the Mac OS X developer tools, with that comes some sample apps, one of which is an OS X native version of the old SimpleText!!

Needless to say I've copied it into my Applications folder & binned TextEdit!

All you have to do is save the file with a .txt extension to create a plain text file.

One mouse click in TextEdit>Preferences--problem solved.

I use Text-Wrangler for all such needs. It's awesome for a freeware app. It's smart enough to handle HTML tags and uses spell check, so it's a very good HTML editor.
