Just bought a 1 GB shuffle as a present for my neice.

I wanted to add a few tracks to it before I give it to her, as she won't be near her PC for a few days.

If I use a Mac to do that, does that means she will have to jump through hoops to set up the shuffle with her PC?

Thanks.

The shuffle can only be associated with one music library at a time.

If you load songs from iTunes on your Mac, when she connects it to her PC (if she already has iTunes) it will ask her to delete the songs on the shuffle in order to work with her library.

You could load up the shuffle with songs by using it like a flash drive, then she could add them to her iTunes library and then play the songs on her shuffle.

Do both. Load the songs on the shuffle with iTunes, and then also place those songs onto the flash drive by dragging them from iTunes to the drive. (NOTE: The only catch is that the songs can't be protected by iTunes' DRM) Then she can listen to them until she gets back to her PC.

A related query on the shuffle. I have a friend without a Mac or a PC at home. I've loaded up his shuffle with songs from my Mac and have agreed to fine tune it if/when he wants to make changes to what's on it. But what about recharging the thing? Will he be able to plug it into the usb port on his PC at work just to charge it? i assume that should work.

The shuffle can charge through USB 2 ports. Otherwise he needs to buy the AC adapter.

It charges just fine through the old USB as well.

Mine doesn't, it has to be connected to the USB 2 port to charge.

My powerbook only has USB 1 and the Shuffle works fine. Plus I'm sure the POS Dell I use at work is only USB 1 and ... no problem charging.

In fact most Mac only have USB 1.

Apologies for my misinformation. It appears you are correct.

Well I don't know. I was looking at the iPod Mini manual and the iPod Shuffle manual. If I remember the Mini "wants" a USB2 when connected to a PeeCee. The wording in the manual gets confused because in the same paragraph the mention connecting to a "high power" USB port for charging, e.g. the computer or a powered hub, and then mention that PeeCees require USB2 for file transfer (if I remember?).

The power pin out on USB 1 and USB 2 have to be the same so I don't know why you couldn't charge on a PeeCee with USB 1 even if you can't transfer files.
