Apple will be using Quanta instead of Asus for the new iBook model.

A 15.4 inch iBook coming in 2006 from Asus.

The Quanta iBook not to be expected until 4th quarter of 2005

God damn, now I have to wait for a 15" iBook.......

....and is that 4th quarter market, or 4th quarter apple?

Digitimes = don't believe a word they say.

These are the people who 'reported' that Apple was going to have G5 iBooks by the end of the second quarter 2005. That's two months off... do you really think it's going to happen?

Don't just take an unverified report as fact!

True. I doubt we'll see a 15.2" iBook, but a 14" widescreen could fit well into the mix.

I think we will see G5s in iBooks sooner than later. The Powerbooks should be first, then the iBook, or simultaneous (although unlikely). If the iBook gets a 13" and a 15.4", then there will be room for a low power 970 GX. Powerbooks will have either a single or dual core version of this CPU. With the iBook as thick as it is and with slightly increase width, would accomadate something like the GX.

The truth is, even the iBook as a budget laptop is underpowered right now. A low power G5 should be workable toward the end of the year.

I know it is an unpopluar thought, but it is logical.

I'm sure Apple would love to get G5's in everything, as IBM's price is probably lower than Freescale's for the 7447 (and 7448) - but the heat and power issues just make it impossible at the present time. End of the year? Possibly.
