Off topic: I think I know why the xbox 2 wasn't announced at GDC. Apple is using same type of proccessors as the new xbox in their new lineup. Apple, with its secrecy didn't want Microsoft to get the scoop of dual cores. Just an idea.

Yeah, that's what I noticed too. It looks like these are just dual processor machines, not dual core.

Yes I believe the specs for the dual core 970MP are 1mb of L2 cache.... these new specs list 512k..so it seems these are still the old single core chips.

They can't not know the processor and say they know the cache *shrug*
about dual core vs single core processors.
This tells me that their source is just speculating as we are.
The front page article also did not clearly specify PCI-X
or PCI-E with the doubling of GPU RAM
If this forecast is correct then once again, many will be disappointed
that Apple has fallen behind on the pro video PCI-E issue.
There is also no mention of water cooling vs fan cooling for these
processors.
I have to consider that any leaks at this time may have been deliberately planted to trace the source.
I suppose many will be content that this release will be a Rev C G5
in the existing chassis rather than a Rev A in some new form factor.

It would not suck if it was "only" 2.5 GHz but in quad configuration (double dual core). Or usual dual processor but up to 3-3.2 GHz. But it is true that this report has lower expectations even from the most conservative estimations I have read so far.
I think if this prediction/report comes out true, then people here and elsewhere need to start getting used to the new Apple reality. Otherwise I see them either taking pills for breakfast or switching.
