Laptop Power Plug Redesign : It's Time!
Is there anybody else out there who would like to see the current design of the laptop power supplies to be changed? I don't mind the brick, it works fine for me.
The thing that I think could be made better is the plug that jacks into your iBook or PowerBook. It pokes out too far, and seems as if it would be better if it were made as a right-angle plug.
Your thoughts?

Wireless power is actually quite possible - that's what Tesla coils were originaly designed for, not just for frying enemy soliders in RedAlert.

I don't think we're quite there on direct wireless power yet, but i read about a cool gadget a few weeks back. A plain plastic tray - about 16x12". You put your (suitably equipped) mobile 'phone, car lock 'plipper', TV remote, Palm etc on the tray - and it trickle charges them inductively. Cool!

straight or right angle... you would still have the problem depending on which direction the plug is in...
but with the angled plug at least it can rotate to alleviate some pressure...

ahhh, ok. Wireless power means NO WIRES, anywhere connecting to anything. Does Apple have any product that can operate with wireless power? My QS needs a power cord, and my 23" draws it's power from the QS via the ADC WIRE. The iMac has a power cable, etc, etc, etc.
I suppose we can look forward to the day when all PCs have their own inbuilt nuclear fusion power supply, at least until the first overclocking freak manages to send his machine into a full-on meltdown and irradiates his neighbourhood...
Jeez.
(For the incredibly lazy... it shows a G4 tower and display in a QTVR movie, so it spins all the way around... and there's no power cord hooked into the G4 tower. Yet somehow there's an image on the display...)

I dunno, I think batteries will have to just get more advanced. I don't think wireless power will ever be practical enough, at least in our lifetimes. Well, maybe once I'm old and I don't care anyway.
