we can hope they're spot-on, but i seriously doubt it. Even transcedental octopoop who claimed the earliest release date so far never insinuated may, but rather june/july

Neither says "970 at WWDC". They say that the 970 will be presented by IBM (that will already happen at CeBit later this month), and that Apple will disclose the PowerMac 970 to a limited amount of engineers. No release date is mentioned.

well, I was smart when I wrote my post : I never said either that Apple would release the PMac 970 :-) I just pointed at the bidouille rumor

Not impossible by any means. Something is definitely up with IBM and the 970, since they now have the PS3 ready for trial runs for production. :eek:

no, MacWhispers had an insider info from a plastic manufacturer who made enclosures for Apple that *could* be used for an iFrame. All very hypothetical.

This item is completely bogus -- they must be confused with some other piece of hardware. PS3 is not coming this year. Perhaps its a second version of the PS2 (i.e. different box and such).

Oh ok. I was going to say, wow they are ahead of schedule. And I'm sure Sony will advertise and promote the hell out of the PS3, I want to see competitive console sales figures during the period after PS3 is introed and before launch. (especailly the Xbo- I love seeing M$ losing their ass on it)

Yeah but then there's the line at the very end that says, "But we are rivals so working together would be pointless" or something to that effect.

Interesting. It seems the Sony guy in Japan likes the idea of getting the PS to work with Apple, but the CEO of thUS division jumps in at the end to say it's a waste of time. So that's either abusiness response "screw him, I can do it myself" type or a kill the question to difuse any further questions on the subject. It was awkward, I wonder if they would end up fighting it out wether to team with Apple on the PS. Very interesting tho

Sony and Apple could very good and powerfull partners if they set aside their egos. Sony has a lot to offer Apple, and Apple's OS and hardware has a lot to offer Sony in their individual markets. The problem is Sony's PC division (product overlap), and Apples reluctance to license OS X, and hardware designs to other companies. Now, if some deal between Apple, IBM and Sony were reached to build a top down marketing strategy for PowerPC based computers from high end servers and workstations (IBM) to Pro Desktops (Apple and IBM) down to consumer level computers (Apple and Sony), and Sony started marketing and implementing FireWire (iLink) in conjunction with Apple then Mac OS X at least would have a huge potential for getting market share. But Sony and Apple are the two most design centric computer makers out there, and Apple is beginning to target the copterate market now (Xserve). So how would the three companies break up the marketing of computers between them in the short-term so that Apple dosnt loose too much revenue by loosing sales to Sony on the low to medium range?

What does that even mean? Cocoa isn't a rendering engine. Do you mean that PS3 would use the Aqua look-and-feel? Not really very appropriate for most games which are usually doing more sophisticated UI tricks these days, not to mention they have to struggle with a joystick instead of a keyboard/mouse combination. Or do you mean that it would use Quartz & Quartz Extreme? Again, not very appropriate -- the PS2 hardware does not get along well with OpenGL-style interfaces, and PS3 shows all signs of being even more different.
