Is this True? I'd like to get a confirmation of this and if it will fit with the developer tools on a 4Gb Partitioin?

Panther is *far* faster on older machines. The system folder can be shaved down (get OmniDiskSweeper to get rid of Japanese / Chinese / Korean support files) to between 800 MB and 1.2 Gigs, depending.
I dont have it yet either..I have windows 2000 (Argh), should be getting it with my first and new mac in a few weeks though!
I feel your pain , I was a windows user until shortly eailer this year 8), your going to love never having to "maintance your pc" just get the stupid piece of BLEEP OS to work normally.

Actually I was orginally a Mac user , when I went to high school, I had to get a windows machine so I could use their software so for the last 5 years I have been using Windows and had forgotten how reliable Apple OS was .
My first year at college my Windows Laptop crashed about every 3 weeks and I was constanly having to do BLEEPING updates for security crap . SO I started this past year of colllege with windows computers and take a guess . . . Had more freaking problems. So around Christmas I was so feed up with Windows Computers, I decided to sell everything Windows I had, all my computers, all the software everything. And with the money I made I got the Mac I have always wanted since it came out. The G4 Cube and some nice upgrades and accessories for my Cube. I have now owned my Cube since Janurary, and it has not crashed once !
The really amazing thing for me is how much my grades improved with my Mac because it just works. I did have about a 2.1 average last year with my Windows machine, with my Mac, this semester, I am still waiting for one grade, but so far I have a 3.7 8). So Sunilraman, YES Macs are more productive, I just fell extrememly stupid for going from Apple to Microsoft then back to Apple. Oh well, I will not make that same mistake again.
I just wanted to know how many people here don't have Tiger as yet? I'm one of those people that don't have it yet, but I'm planning on getting it before this month is over.
I don't have Tiger. I am using Final Cut Pro HD and there are several issues with running it on Tiger. I'll wait a bit and see if those issues with Quicktime are resolved.
Well I DON'T have Tiger, yet. No chance. It's *way* too early. I am waiting for 10.4.2!
The last time round, I made the mistake of buying Panther right after it was released....and guess what? It trashed 2 firewire external drives because Apple hadn't undertaken the necessary beta-testing to make sure fatal bugs on the firewire bus had been ironed out. That little episode cost me about $800.
Apple tends to think that 'up'grading Quicktime every 10 minutes (or so it seems) is of greater priority than making sure that relatively inconsequential items like hard disks don't fry when connected to the bus.
Computer makers, whatever. We're on a hiding to nothing, and we still can't get enough can we? When is Steve Jobs getting his new, upgraded Gulfstream?

the cow you mention is probably longhorn and not only is it not holy it will not be seen for many years
as for the fast black cat known as Panther, ex-owners upgrading to that other feline, Tiger, will probably start listing their older install CDs or Panther boxes on the wild savannahs of eBay
i'd go with the box set rather than install CDs, people tend to want to hold on to those... but i expect a flood of Panther boxes on the ol' eBay plains over the next season of Tiger huntin'

with care and nurturing through the software update control panel, your Panther will be running at full speed, 10.3.9, even if you start out with the fledging 10.3.0
I own Tiger and I'm not using it yet. How come you ask? Because my Superdrive is broken and I didn't realize when I bought Tiger that it's only being sold on DVD. I have an external CD reader, but for the amount of use I'd get out of it an external DVD reader is not worth buying.
After attending Carbon Computing's not-overly-impressive Tiger Launch Party, they were more than happy to sell me the update. They were less pleased the next day when I asked if they would install it or consider letting me use one of their external DVD readers long enough to install it myself.
First they referred me to the online software exchange program where you can send in your DVD and for an additional $9.95 U.S. they'll send it to you on CD. But, but... that costs more and takes who-knows-how-long to make it through customs (which doesn't always treat such media with kid gloves if you know what I mean).
Then they referred me to their repairs department which, although they claim to be adept at fixing just about anything on your Mac, somehow have never heard of/have no access to an external DVD reader.
Man, they used to be my favourite Mac store, and my purchasing volume would indicate that. Suddenly at the new store nobody knows me from Adam, and nobody seems interested in keeping a loyal customer. I mean, isn't that a bit petty?
Sorry for the rant, I'm off to hit up a friend to borrow a DVD reader, then find an Apple retailer who actually wants my business. Any suggestions?
