I got an email from them today and signed up for the replacement. It looks to be pretty painless. They send you the new battery, and you send back the faulty one in the same box, postage paid. If that's as bad as it gets, then I'm pretty satisfied. I can always stand to get a free battery to replace the old one anyway.

Can't say I am surprised to see LGs name attached to this. Their QC is very poor all things considered.

I also got the eMail and finished the online request for a replacement in about 90 seconds ....

So do I actually HAVE to send the old one back ??? .... It's given me no problems... having two could come in handy !

Typically what happens in cases like this is Apple will send the pile they get back back to LG with a claims bill so no they won't let you keep it

My GUESS ??? ... an inferior quality of the internal chemical components causeing the battery to get hotter than it should as it discharges ...

OR, perhaps a problem in the internal electronic circuitry (the batteries have a built-in charge indicator and other controlling circuitry.)

Most likely reason is there is some form of casing defect and air in contact with Lithium = heat.

I am worried, my model number is 1079 which is on the replacement list, but then my battery serial number does NOT validate on the apple website.

Give Apple a call to verify, cos that's what I did. =)

Not too worried about my PB burning my apartment complex down, but could the extra heat damage internal components?

    New battery arrived today.

Honestly, it takes less than 20 minutes of your time to do the switch, so I say go for it. That way you don't have to worry about any issues a suspect battery might cause.

Mine arrived four days after "ordering" it (continental US). I was feeling deviant though, and didn't drain the old battery .... I'm sure Apple will really freak out when the recieve a fully charged battery in the return box !! ...or maybe not.

For me it was less than 18 hours between input of info online and having replacement battery in my hand. I live in Dallas, TX. Delivery was via Fed Ex

Did anyone else's replacement battery arrive with a three light charge on it?

I don't think this is a new battery....

Lithium batteries are stored charged for a variety of reasons. If you get a Li battery with no charge be concerned.
