Really bloody odd...please help!
Hello!
So, ever since I upgraded to Tiger I have had this really annoying problem with both safari and firefox...
Whenever I type a URL but spell it wrong (such as bannanarepublic.com) both browsers take me to some third party spam search site (see screenshot
The URL that it sends me to for example is:
http://searchportal.domainsponsor.co...BEAPlxRBQsNAlM
Being that it is both browsers, it has to be something running locally on my machine....this is really worrying me. Does anyone else have this problem? All I want is to get back to my simple "page not found" error, or whatever.
Any ideas?
Thanks guys!

Spam sites buy domain names similar to real sites hoping someone like you will accidentally misspell it.
By the way, don't buy from the Banana Republic. It's bad enough that they use sweatshop labor, but then to name themselves after a derogatory word for the countries whose labor they abuse just adds insult to injury.

Or it might be that the URL you typed is a valid URL... just not the one you wanted:
PING bannanarepublic.com (216.65.41.185): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 216.65.41.185: icmp_seq=0 ttl=41 time=184.783 ms
Try something like the following URL and see if that gets the response you wanted:
www.ibetthisgoesnowhere.com
btw: wasn't there a fuss a while ago that one of the high level domain organisations changed the way that non-existent domains were handled? Something about it redirecting them to a search site rather than issuing unknown host?
