Fatal flaw in new iMac!!!!

Please tell me I'm not seeing this correctly:

Do I see a touch sensitive power button on the back???

This is very very very bad! If this is the case, imagine how many people are going to have their new iMacs go to sleep for no good reason because they put thier speaker to far back or they have thier printer too close to the iMac etc...

I really hope I'm wrong on this one.

Are those buttons not heat sensitive rather than pressure?

Unbunch your panties dude. This ain't a fatal flaw. I think it's fine. Unless you have fingers the size of cuccumbers...the base is 10 1/2 inches in diameter...!

Reach around with your left hand, push button and your on...now where is the restart button though... <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

keyboard will have power button on it...as far as accidently hitting the off button on the back...it will probably be hard to do...i have to hit just right and fairly firmly on my current iMac to turn it on....g

plus, at work i am constantly turning off my pc with my foot as the tower is on the floor...now that is a system that is too easy to accidently turn off....g

I guess I worded my problem incorrectly.

Is this power "button" like the cube's power button?

The cube's power button wasn't a button but just an area that was sensitive to things that were on top of it. All you had to do was put something on top or over it and it would sleep/shutdown.

I just wish there was a headphone jack round the front.

Oh, it won't be hard to feel around for that first hole and stick the plug into it. I'm glad they didn't ruin the clean look of the front with any ports or anything.

It's a 10 inch base - it's not like you're reaching around some big machine to get to them.

As for it being heat sensitive like the Cube - if it is, it's at least in a place less likely to be triggered than the top of the Cube.

The arrangment of ports and the power button is strange. I'm assuming it has something to do with the way things are arranged internally.

I would have preferred the power button on the front, along with perhaps one firewire and one USB for digital hub devices.

Here's an idea - turn the computer itself sideways, and then spin the monitor so it faces front. Now you've got ports and power on one side, and the CD tray on the other side.

I don't think that the power button is a shut down/sleep. It probably does what my powerbook powerbutton does, just show a prompt with 'restart', 'sleep', 'cancel', and 'shutdown' as its options, but not shutdown the computer.

I had just the same idea. In fact, I think if you turn it so that the ports are on the left and the tray is on the right, the power button is right up front.

Having used the Apple touch/heat/proximity buttons/sensors, I long for the days of prototyping circuits at home with an old-style toggle switch. REAL switches are on my iMac III wish list here...

I prefer that the mug holder pop out the front of the computer, but I can adapt and reach a little further to the side. Good suggestion.

There is no power button on the keyboard..Wouldn't there also be a power button on the monitor?

    &lt;sarcasm&gt;Since apple is touting it as a digital appliance why in the world would you ever want to turn it off?&lt;/sarcasm&gt;

Yeah, I figured Apple would put the touch-sensitive "power" and "display" buttons on the front of the LCD like the ASD's have.
