The button is a conventional button, not like the Cube. you're no more likely to hit that button than you are likely to hit any other computer's on button, I'd say. It's flush...it would take a miracle jab to hit and depress.
There's no power button on the display. There are two dots on the display though. There is a mic on the bottom left and a power-light on the bottom right.
Look at how close the air inlet holes are at the base - What if a big mug of coffee went all over my desk!!!
people should replace their optical drives with nice cup holders and put the optical drives in an external fire wire chassis. Best of both worlds.....or is it?
There is no power button on the keyboard..Wouldn't there also be a power button on the monitor?

I saw a Today Show segment yesterday that included a look at the new iMac. The guy showing it (the usual Today Show gadget-geek) LOVED it. He said he was going to by one.
Oh yeah, the point of this post: I'm pretty sure he turned it on from the keyboard.
The power icon on the Cube and flat displays are not touch sensitive. They're not heat sensitive, either. It's static capicitance. Meaning, basically, that a part of your anatomy (or perhaps your pets, I don't have inside pets to test this theory with) is the only thing that will activate it.
That said, the power button on the iMac is clearly an actual mechanical button, not just a power icon. It wouldn't make sense otherwise -- since people have to reach around to the back for the power button, they need something tactile to feel for.
I don't think putting the power button on the back is a bad idea though. Just put the computer to sleep and wake it by hitting any key. Easy enough.
What do you mean by lock?. (the hole) . Does it lock the unit together or is it for threading a chain lock into. (looks a bit small for that)

Ok, my memory has come back more fully now. The iMac was already on. The guy ejected the CD tray from the keyboard.

I think it's the hole for the Kensington Lock.
