6 Million Sold In 3.5 Years. 10 Million Sold In 2 Years.
I really think the new Apple iMac will far out-sell the original simply because I think it is even more revolutionary than the first. The original iMac had a design that people were at first apprehensive about but then gave way to the cute nicely featured all in one loveable machine. I think the new iMac will do even BETTER because the new iMac is the digital hub on steroids. Once ads start rolling and magazines start getting stuffed with cardboard thick promos the new iMac will be a design icon in the industry. I would say it is already catching on and is instantly noticable.
I bought a Superdrive model for $1,851 just to give myself the ability to BURN and contribute to the economy.
So there it is, 10 million in 2 years. Flame away.

Well I got one too so I guess that's two sold and 10 million to go.
I don't need a new iMac at all.
I will probably get one soon.
It simply is that great.
So if I bought the new iMac and stuck it on the counter in the kitchen nook, not only would I have a machine with a Superdrive, but also my girlfriend could use the iMac and leave me alone with my iBook!
Is it counted as 6th?
1 for my wife (superdrive)
1 for me at work (replacing a TiBook on my desk)
iHope it hits as big as the original-if it does iThink

If my tax refund is in the range I hope it is, I'll get one, for nothing other than coolness.

The iApps make selling the new imac so much easier to sell. I would say that the iApps make the imac 100 times better of a value than a 100 mhz upgrade does anyday.
I can not wait a day longer for my superdrive iMac!

600,000 iMacs
I would like to agree with your rather optomistic number; however, [quote] The shipments of the newly-launched computers are estimated to reach 600,000 units this year, the paper added.

Unless Apple can sell 9.4 million in 1 year, your number of 10 million is high.

Never underestimate the power of a sweet machine beautifully priced
I also have a very good feeling that Apple will introduce a 17 inch version this summer for 1999 or something
You are right about the iApps adding so much resale value to these machines. I still wonder though, whether Apple wins by setting the default so high.
There is still no $500 iMac! Then you could sell 10 million of them (not lcd, I know).

I'm goona wait until then tho... I'm sure well see @ least one update by then, and might even see a good deal on a DVD iBook in the meantime so i can have both!!
I think that is the only solution!

If you have the money, TiBook.
Why? More power than the iBook (esp. with the G4-enhanced iApps) and a bigger screen. And more portable than the iMac.
Otherwise, I'd go iMac. More power for the future.
