in iPod + iTunes + AppleTV edited January 2014
The next version of iTunes, 4.9 is out grabbing podcasts from site around the web, likely from testers at Apple. Logs are showing a new user agents "Agent: iTunes/4.9 (Macintosh; N; PPC)" and then the podcasts are being downloaded.

Argh! I thought you were saying that it was out for download. Bad, bad person!

I'm really looking forward to this new version. Nice to know it's being tested now, though.

That is a nice picture of the BadApple plugin, Gene Clean. Unfortunately for them, iTunes 4.9 will put their plugin to rest.

Yep - unfortunately for Apple, the plugin can be updated.

That is true, but if the support for podcasting in iTunes 4.9 is sufficient for most people, would they want to download a plugin or use the direct application to get what they wanted?

I haven't tried the plugin, but depending on what it does and how it works, its highly likely Apple will block it out. iTunes is not a web browser with a completely open plugin architecture.

If the plugin hijacks the Store's rendering or feeds, I'd expect that it'll be blocked out fairly soon. However, there's nothing stopping them from producing a local proxy server app that basically alters all iTunes requests/responses to include additional content from other sources.

Might be able to emulate a USB player device, however since copying is only permitted one-way, I don't think this would help too much.

Perhaps Apple's first bout with Spyware? Hijack-ware, perhaps?

I uninstalled it. Very unstable. The Music Store did work for me though.
