Updated Mac mini imminent?

Rumors abound as to an imminent update of the mini...

Engadget

MacOSXrumors

A MacBidouille reader has apparently received notification from Apple regarding a change to his order of a mini. "Replaced with new product".

Speed bump? More RAM? Superdrive standard? One thing is for sure, the mini sorely needs an update.

Any ideas? Speculate...

A minor speed bump, more RAM a better video card are possible upgrades. At least this upgrade would be logical.

Perhaps all that is changed is the OS version that is bundled/pre-installed. Apple may be prepping hardware with 10.4.2.

I ordered my mini today, and my order says "sent to manufacturing". It might just be that there was a fault with the product in stock that they where about to ship..?

    I concur.

I've been looking at the mini since its release and would dearly love to own one but IMHO it is a poorly performing machine in its current guise.

I'd really like to see a faster processor, at least 512 RAM and better video card put in there, and, maybe even a price cut

Would like one with a Superdrive (home movies) so need all the speed I can get

Too early for an "Intel inside"

It's a possibility, though even this would hardly justify the guys order being "replaced with NEW product" ... would it?

    I sense apprehension

Purely speculation Stash... don't fret about your mini... if there is an update very soon you'll probably get the 'new' model.

Keep one eye on your order and the other on the boards

I had mine on order as well (a BTO) and it was processing my order...I read this rumor and canceled it so I never got to see if it went to swapping with new hardware or not...My guess is it's probably a screw up, but with the event next week I want to wait until I order my mini.

Pardon my English! My last sentence refered to the rumour that started this thread...

Intel chips already available. Dual-boot Windows and X.4.2 pre-installed.

    Thread over.

hahaha lets ship macs with hardly any applications available for it!

I do think 10.4.2 will be available the day of the event...

As with a porn movie house, if you build it, they will come.

I'd like to see if they added audio line in, since I'd enjoy having that for basic audio production. I'm interested in buying a Mini to replace this aging PC, but I might wait until the first Intel-based ones come out. I wonder.

hope so, hope so, doubt it unless it happened to every mac product, damn right.

Support for the "slices" idea would be nice (ie: add on modules that stack and provide extra functions such as usb hubs, ext hdd's etc etc etc), some more usb/fw ports, faster, more ram - 256 is just ridiculous, and an easier-to-open case. Also, I'd like to see full-size hdd's, but that's probably just a pipe dream.

Edit: sound card with line/mic in and optical out

I'm waiting for the P4 mini before I get another mac. I have two as it is and then both work, so I am fine with waiting 8), but the sooner the P4 mini comes out, the sooner I will own a better mac .

No, if a new one is released you'll either get it or be entitled to a swap, if not you'll still have a nice Mac.

Any update had better include an empty fucking RAM slot that's easy to access!

While Apple is at it, they can add a 7200 RPM desktop HD and a Tiger compatible video chipset.

At least slap in the fastest G4s Freescale can make...what are they at now, 1.8 GHz or so? Apple should just use the fastest G4s possible in all the G4 lines, since Intel is coming it would be a good sales incentive.

I agree. "Replaced with NEW product" implies more significant changes, but who knows.

    You do know that

    1) the Mac mini is primarily geared towards switchers

    2) switchers are coming from the Windows World

    3) windows users already have the apps they use,

    right?

Maybe not dual-boot, but having native Windows XP being available a la WINE in Linux would be killer. And the Mini was always supposed to be the first intel switcher...
