New iMac hard drive speed?

Does anyone know the speed of the hard drives in the new iMacs? I can't find a reference here or on Apple's site... I find some references to drive speed on other computers, but not the new iMac.

(example: <a href="http://www.apple.com/powermac/specs.html"; target="_blank">http://www.apple.com/powermac/specs.html</a>; )

—40GB 5400-rpm Ultra ATA/66

—60GB 7200-rpm Ultra ATA/66

—80GB 7200-rpm Ultra ATA/66



can the case be made from that page that all apple 60gb drives are 7200?

    well, all the old iMacs (w/20, 40, and 60 GB HDs) were 5400 rpms, and I would assume it's the same w/the new iMacs (more differentiation between pro and consumer lines)

    from an apple rep

    that all imac drives

    are 5400

    i guess to keep

    down the cost

    bummer

    but i'm sure

    it's not to

    hard to swap

    out hard drives

    I just put a nice, quiet IBM 40GB/7200RPM drive in my older iMac, for just $89, from <a href="http://newegg.com/"; target="_blank">http://newegg.com/</a>; . With a three-year OEM warranty. Ten times the space of what I originally had, not a bad deal IMHO. It was also pretty darn easy to install.



    So if you want the speed, get one of those nice big 160GB/7200RPM ones.. that'll only set you back a small mint.

    Now that iMacs have normal optical dries, as opposed to the slot loaders, it's easy to swap those too.



    So just buy the low end iMac, take the $200 saved and buy an internal CD-RW drive, and a faster HD. Nice. Now if only the iMac had a normal video card that could be updated, its lifespan would be extended by a few years.



    Still, that new design is great...if Apple attached a 17" LCD to that sucker I'd buy one tomorrow.

    Don't take this bad advice. Most non-Apple drive do not support bootable cd'S. Many will not work with disk burner and do strange things like ejecting prior to the verification.

    Actually many will work. Go to <a href="http://www.xlr8yourmac.com"; target="_blank">www.xlr8yourmac.com</a> & check their compatability database. Very useful site.
