monitor help!

Hey everyone, I have a 12" power book, great for portable use, but annoying when i try to design. So I'm planning on setting up dual 17" flat screen monitors at home. My question is, what cables and or software do I need so that I can use both simotaniously (mouse ends at one screen and starts on the other). And are there monitors that arn't compatible with macs at all? Anyway any and all info you guys have would be helpful. Also any suggestions you have what kind of monitors to get would be good too. Thank you all for your valuble time.

    I don't believe there's any way to run two external monitors from a powerbook. The only option you have is to use one external monitor and the built-in screen. Do you know if you have a DVI powerbook? If so, any monitor with either VGA or DVI input will work (use the adapters that came with your computer). If you have the older one, I think you can only use VGA.

    how sure are you of that? I have a G5 tower computer in my lab and it has dual monitors set up. I assumed the same could be done with a powerbook but maybe not. The monitors I now want are being sold by an aquaintence and I need to know soon so the offer dosn't pass me up.

    I have seen PCI cards that add an extra DVI port, but the 12 inch powerbook doesn't have a card slot. You really need two ports to drive two non-mirrored monitors.

    On the G5 tower, I am pretty sure that each monitor is using its own separate video connector rather than sharing a single connector.



    Powerbooks only have one external connector, the other display is the built-in one.

    The 12" PowerBook only supports one external. What EBBY is referring to is a PC card expansion option. Since the 12" PB doesn't have the slot, you're stuck with one external.

    I'm happy with my 2+ year old 12" PB

    Ahh, you're right. The 12" doesn't have PCMCIA. Then I guess it won't work.



    Still, I have a Pismo and that looked appealing.

    It'll work. The screen uses both DVI and VGA connections. (I don't THINK the 12" uses ADC. )

    The 15" PowerBooks had DVI before the 12" was even released.
