Want to add 2 G3s to my wireless network. Currently have a mix of PCs and Macs. The Macs have Airport Extreme/Bluetooth installed. The G3s do not have Airport Extreme.

Could you recommend Wireless adapters, other than Airport Extreme, or is that the best/only choice

Thanks

You can use USB WIFI connectors. Check to see which type of USB ports you have. USB1.1 will support the 54g but you won't get 54g speed. Google usb wifi for all the choises you could use.

Don't use USB adapters. They're slow and just hog the USB bus. Get an 802.11G 54Mbps PCI adapter. If you get one with the Broadcom chipset, OS X 10.3+ will recognize it natively as Airport. I'm using the Trendnet TEW-403PI and it works great.

The only reason I don't like those is because mine use to sit on the floor with the back to the wall which is where the antenna would be. So the reception was not as good as it should have been. With USB extenders we were able to get great reception that never cut out in a computer lab with older machines.

I have had no problem at all with my PCI wifi antenna being up against the wall, you may want to look for better/stronger antennas for the router - If you have a Lynksys WRT54G get the after market firmware to boost the power way beond factory spec and the bigger linksys antennas (sold at bestbuy, frys, Radioshack, yadda yadda) or you could build one of these

I like the idea and I think that I will incorporate this into one of our projects for our boy scout troop during their summer camp. In a school enviroment the pringles cans would not last more than a day before they were destroyed.

Does anyone know if the same is true of the TEW-403PIplus? Of course, the manufacturerclaims that it isn't, but I would think that would apply to the earlier version, as well.
