Remember those AppleVision monitors?

I got a question for those that know/remember that far back. I own an AppleVision 750 and from what I've seen on the net, the AppleVision 1710 looks almost identical and from what i can gather, the 1710 came out about 1 year earlier. Is there much difference between the 2 physically and qualitively?

    Bob: I have no clue as to the differences between the two AppleVision monitors you mention. However, I wish that Apple would bring back integrated speakers to their line of monitors. What's the point of the all-in-one iMac or ADC if you have Pro Speakers cluttering up your desk?

    I like the iMac without having integrated speakers. I wish that Apple would take the speaker OUT of the tower as well, it's wasted space.



    When Steve said that he wanted "each component to be true to itself...", that means speakers too. Speakers are meant to be wherever you want them to be. Speakers are also meant to be able to be upgraded or taken off completely in some instances (like an iMac residing in a library). I just got tired of my current speaker setup on my tower, so I bought a new setup with better sound quality, bass, and volume capability.



    From a more audiophyllic standpoint, the iMac would be a very poor design to integrate speakers into. For one, they would be very close to each other, virtually negating any stereo effect of left/right channels. Second, where the heck would you put 'em? A flat panel monitor isn't very thick ya know, which would lend itself to the flat speaker technology, which IMO don't sound nearly as good as the pro speakers w/ the iSub.



    Maybe a better option would be to sell speakers that could easily attach to the sides of the flat panel monitors easily, but sell them separately or give a choice in the BTO configs (either Apple Pro Speakers, or flat panel thingy-bobs).



    Anyway, I like Apple's external speaker offerings.

    Their AppleSpec sheets are identical but for the release date, and while I haven't worked with many 750s, I supported a good dozen or more 1710s a while back.



    There were manufacturing problems when the 1710 first came out, and we got a massively bad batch. But, the replacements are still in mostly working order... some are starting to get unfixably blurry and such, but these monitors have been worked to death more than are dying of natural causes, I think.



    Did the 750 have a built-in microphone up at the top, or was that just the AV model? Other than that, yeah, I think they're nominally the same.



    But if you want even more nostalgia-hardware, I still have a 21" Apple Color Monitor (not even multisync capable) in working order at home. Heavy beast.

    Anything in the spirit of all-in-one design that doesn't clutter up my desk! Anybody remember the Miceky Mouse-style speakers shown in a Macword special issue that plugged into the left and right sides of a PowerBook monitor?
