It should be noted that ship times for the Mac mini slipped to 5-7 days about a month ago as well and nothing happened. Ship times returned to normal after a few days with nothing new to show for it. Let's hope things will be different this time around what with Apple using Overstock.com to clear out excess inventory and all.

It'll probably have a lousy GeForce 5200 in it though.

Realistically, what can we expect in an update do people think? I am looking at ordering a 17" base model iMac at the weekend, but might wait if the mini would be good.

The iMac is a way better system, but if I go the mini and 20" display route, I can update the computer relatively cheaply every few years, and keep the nice big display. So way are we likely to see in the next update?

The iMac is a great machine, and with the update to it I was torn between getting the iMac, and getting a mini with a big monitor. Each has its benefits. Apple made the choice easy for me by going intel. In a year to 18 months I can look at getting a new machine, and not having to shell out for another monitor.

Final decision: mini and Dell 24".

Do you have that set up now? I am really interested in knowing how the mini handles that large a display.
