26 in Sony HD LCD as my moniter
I recently purchased a Sony LCD HDTV. I have it connected to my Dual G4/450 AGP by DVI. The only res I can get is 640x480... unusable. Is there anyway to make this work with a reasonable resolution. I will be buying a mini, instead of an iBook if I can make this work. Does the mini provide something that will improve this...or 10.4? I appreciate any help on, it's time for buying!

I've heard some people say that they have had 800x600 but I've never seen it.
Now a 30" Mac monitor would provide a much better resolution.
If you could get a HDTV card for the Mac you could run it on that.
How much was the LCD HDTV anyway?
Do you like the image quality?

Thank you for the info. I will see if I can find a card for my G4...and keep it around a while longer. The tv and movie viewing is great...and forget about the HD broadcasts. It's a site to behold. the computer screen on it is crap. I'm sure you knowe that however. I hear there are patches and/or vcards that will fix this. If I get a mini I will have to rely on the patch...not vcard options on the mini.

All TV's (whether HDTV or not) have a resolution of 640x480 when hooked up to a computer.
This is only true when connecting with a composite or S-Video connection. Using a VGA, RGB, component, or digital connection (ie. DVI) will allow full resolution of the TV (regardless of the technology)
Through the DVI (digital) interface, the maximum LCD panel resolution should be supported.
Even with an analog connection to an HD-ready set, it's possible to get full resolution supported by the TV. I've got a BenQ 20" LCD connected to my PC via VGA at the native panel resolution of 800x600.

Mikef,
I am using DVI and I'm getting 640x480...on an older 32 mg card mind you. Is 800x600 on a 20in really any good?

Have you tried using SwitchRes? This could be a driver issue.

For what I am using it for, it's perfect. It's on my media PC, which doubles as a PVR, DVD/video player, and an MP3 jukebox.
