Hi,

When browsing on my own Windows systems and friends servers I've noticed that my Mac leaves these hidden .dstore files where ever I have browsed to and I would like to know definitively what they are and what they are used for ??

My guess is that they are something the Mac OS uses for indexing of files and folders, but I am not certain.

Can someone please enlighten me ?? :-)

Close. The Finder uses them to store information on window placement, view, etc, etc, etc.

I noticed this and something else as well when I connected my flash drive to my windows computer. For each file (eg: index.htm) there was another file (._index.htm)

In relation to the dsstore, windows does a similar thing, such as the Thumbs.db files etc. etc.

Ayup. The ._ files are the resource forks for the files, and they pop up on filesystems that can't handle forked files.
