Hey, I just got the base model Mac mini (40gb, 512mb) specifically for movie editing, because its no contest, mac wins over all others when it comes to editing. Anyway I want to know from people who have it, how is the operating system, do things go smoothly? Will 40gb be enough for movies? Also I have a dell mouse keyboard and monitor I want to use with it? Will those go over okay? Thanks a lot.

ya osx is amazing and 40 gb should be enough, depending are how much editing you want to do. im not sure, but if it has a dvd burner and your are going to burn the edited movies, you will do fine. if not then im not sure if 40 will be enough. the keyboard and mouse you have will work if they are usb, there arent ps2 ports, but i think when you buy the mini they give you a keyboard and 1 button mouse.

hope you love your mac, i love mine

Depends on how serious about movie editing you are? If you're a hobbyist beginner than it'll be fine. If you're a pro you'll want a G5.

The internal HD on the mini is slow; it's only a 4200 rpm laptop drive which you'll notice straight away. You would be better getting an external firewire/USB2 drive and installing OS X onto that and keeping the internal 40GB for other usage.

I have the 1.42ghz with the 80GB HD. I boot from an external 300GB Firewire and is plenty fast enough, though I mainly do Digital Still camera work. If your needs grow you will be better off with one of the old Dual G4 towers (eBay) or G5's

EDIT: If your keyboard and mouse are USB then yes they'll work. If you're into/getting into Final Cut Pro there's a special Apple keyboard you can always buy . As for the monitor, it will work. Apple provides an analog to DVI converter just in case.
