Macintosh, Your absolutly right! On top of what you said your getting a computer with an outdated 100mhz system bus useing outdated pc 100 memory! What a ripoff!!!

Apple= a proprietary company locked in a niche market!!!

So I bashed a machine I bought, big deal. i am just pointing out a few things about the iMac that are not that great.

When the iMac came out the Powermacs only had the 2MX.

gee, sounds like someone is attempting to improve is apple zealot appearance by making one anti-apple post in order to show he is suitable for a mod postion.

then again this was posted before that thread posting. oh well.

perhaps Macintosh just saw the light today and guided himself out of Jobs' ass

First of all, for the price, the specs are competitive. Apple has to pay for components just like everyone else does, so they can't sell a machine chock full of the latest and greatest for $2K.

You'll notice that a lot of consumer LCD PCs come with "Intel graphics acceleration" or something similarly notional. Compared to that the GeForce2MX is a monster.

But that really isn't the point. That's never what makes a machine revolutionary. It's not the features on the spec sheet that matter, it's what the company does with them. The original Macintosh didn't have anything remarkable for hardware either. Was that not revolutionary?

The iMac you're getting is a one-stop, plug-and-go multimedia and internet workstation. It redefines the way a computer occupies space, and one of the ways in which you interface with it (by allowing the monitor to be easily repositioned). These aren't the sort of things that stand out in a feature list, but they're the sort of thing that can completely change the ways in which a computer is approached and used, and at the end of the day that's what matters.

Sounds like your talking about the cube!!!

Back to the video card, the GeForce4 didn't even exist on Jan. 7!

Gimme a break You must realize, if Apple could have put in more for the same price, they would have either lowered the price or put it in. They, too, need a thing called 'profit'

Don't waste your time trying to explain to him. No matter what you say it won't matter.

Apple could have put in a little more....right.

The iMac is a friggin steal at $1800.

Go configure a Dell with similar specs.

If you can get a small Dell.

    Or maybe an IBM.

If that doesn't work try Compaq.

You just can't do it under $2200 or so.

And if you factor in the iMacs ease of use, greatness of its OS, etc, you can't buy a similar machine at all. Unless you buy a slightly lower end iMac.

So do all of us who think Apple is doing a good job of making computers a favor and either shut up or drift over to the moaning wintel users. They will welcome you with glazed over eyes and shapeless mouths screaming "FVCK YOU .NET!"

jeez, all you guys that are arging with him and responding to wrong him don't realize that he's "playing" you.

look at his 1000+ posts. it's the most pro Apple BS I have ever seen. he quotes word for word apple advertisements for school papers. Then all of a sudden (today) he makes a few posts dissing Apple. Let's see which one's show his real beliefs.

He's doing this to get attention just like he did when he created another username and posted false "inside info" and got everyone to believe that. He's an insecure immature bastard.

    Let this thread die

I think he's just pissed that it's taken this long to get his iMac, and he's finally letting it all out.

Pay no mind to him. He'll be slobbering and salivating all over the iMac when it comes, and will totally renounce everything he said here.

I really don't think so, he's upset his iMac isn't with him yet and he won't shut up til then.

I don't see any reason to get bent out of shape over someone who can't spell the word "their" correctly in their .sig line.

Like he has any credibility anyway.

Dont be so ready to discount anything anti-Mac that I say as illegitimate.

I am truly bit upset with the specs of the machine and utter lack of Apple's concern to give he iMac an upgradeable GPU and then the RAM issue.

It is a great machine with a few things holding it back from becoming a revolutionary product. I am sure that somewhere along the line the imac will become even better with more options and at a lower cost.

Most consumers don't worry about that. Remember, it's a consumer machine.
