how to get non-airport G3 wireless?

Hi all-

I'm still living with my G3 iMac, and am now in a building with wireless. Assuming I don't have an airport card slot (I don't, do I? How can I tell?) what do I need to get online? Someone told me about a USB card-type thing, an 803.11 or something like that. Any help appreciated.

DOES work with Mac OS 10.4, June 10, 2005

I have this working just fine right now on my Mac G4 desktop with Tiger. HOWEVER - I downloaded the driver for 10.2 and installed the adapter, and THEN upgraded from 10.2 to 10.4. I know they don't yet have a driver for 10.4 available, but if you can get it to work with a eariler OS then it can work in 10.4

Search Google for "wireless bridge." No drivers, just requires a free Ethernet port.

Some iMac G3s did have an airport slot.

Think Rev A - C did not while the later ones did.

Take a look here for your model and see if it has a slot or not:

    Hope this helps.

Aha, thanks! According to that, my iMac DOES have an airport slot. So does that mean I just have to get an Airport card? And are the cards still available?

And is there a cheaper, 3rd party card that would do it?

I think you might need an airport card and an iMac Airport Card Adaptor...

You need one of the older cards 802.11b not 802.11g (also called extreme).

I know people were upset when the older cards were discontinued by Apple.

They are going for surprisingly high bids on Ebay:

I don't know if a third party card would work. i've not heard of one that works in an airport slot...
