Major disappointment in Canada

And this isn't a 'Our Figure Skaters are Better than Yours!' post... 8^)

I have been going to different stores out here in Alberta since the new iMac was announced. Even now, there are no machines in ANY of the stores.

The usual response is "Oh, there is such a demand in the states that they aren't shipping here yet"

That seems ridiculous... At least send one out here so we can test the response of the mechanical arm... stroke the screen and leave little drool droplets all over the floor.

Even only one in the province would be like some bobbing mecca for us fanatics.

Hell, by the time the demand is satisfied, they will be demoing version 11 of Mac OS at Macworld...

    Yeah, same here in Toronto.

One of the largest dealers in Canada says he won't get anything until perhaps another week or so.

I think Apple is shooting itself in the foot by not getting this stuff out fast enough.

The buzz about the iMac is starting to die down and leaving the public's mind.

Going through the same frustration in Southern Alberta.

    *sigh*

I thought for sure the dealers would be given at least one iMac to be used as a demo. If Apple had sent a single unit to their resellers, I'm sure the number of preorders would be higher than it is.

I wouldn't want to be a Mac reseller right now. I'm sure they get phone calls every 5 minutes ... "Are the new iMacs in yet?!"

    Must be driving them mad.

Same problem in Pittsburgh. Oh wait, I'm not in Canada. They are in short supply _everywhere_.. I'm not expecting to see one till mine ships.

Same here... I'd love to see one, but there aren't any around. This ain't only a US versus Canada issue, it's a matter of extreme scarcity all around.

So did Apple drop the ball and under estimate the demand?

Or are they building demand by trickling a few units out?

I have seen several posts now of customers getting their iMacs in the UK. The apple specialist here still has no idea when they will get their demo model. Seeing how the iMacs go to Alaska first then shipped to the rest of the US, you would think maybe they could drop off some as demo units on their way.

As a side note, my brother saw some guy doing an demo with the new iMac at the university here. Although he got the impression it was just a travelling show and the unit was not staying at the local store. So there is at least 1 iMac in all of Canada now.

Thanks guys... I don't feel so bad.

But I do agree... if the momentum is to be maintained, at least one demo of every new item should be sent to each authorized dealer. A large amount, to be sure, but at least the public would be able to see it.

I guess a careful balance would have to be considered over stores getting them and people who preordered... But right now there doesn't even seem to be a consideration for demos.

My dealer here in Southern AB told me today that they are being sent ONE iMac for a demo unit this Friday.

    One damn pathetic iMac.

Come on Apple, get it together man.

I read a post of some fellow from Finland and Apple told him it would be 40 working days + 5 days shipping. When I read that I thought, that really sucks that is 9 weeks. But then I thought.... well wait a second... I am being told that mine may be come until some time in March.. if it comes March 15th that would be 9 weeks for me too. Well I'm guess I'm glad I am not the only one.

They used to have some good deals on the 733 MHz tower with a 15 Inch display it was not much more than the iMac. I am beginning to wish I took advantage of that instead.

My Uncle works at CCRA and it's customs holding up the iMacs here in Canada.

A company recently tried to register a cordless phone a cell phone to get out of paying import tarrifs!

I thought of that as well...but trust me I think the wait will be worth it. Especially if you're using it at home, you'll really appreciate the quiet fan as opposed to that jet engine in the tower.

So what you are saying is that Apple is trying to import them as desklamps? <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

To be honest, it would be nice to have Apple inform us buyers what the delay is. Maybe the problem is that the government insists on it being classified as a portable since you can carry it so easily...

Whatever... it is annoying... Right now I have my sights set on an ibook... but I still wouldn't mind caressing that translucent plastic, manipulating that chrome arm in all directions and putting fingerprints...

Hmmm... maybe you shouldn't let your kids read this post...

I work for an AASP here in Canada (Toronto Area). We placed two orders for the new imac for ourselves through two separate distributors about 4 hours after they were announced. We are 39th on the waiting list. We were told they were going to ship on the 28th of Jan. We've been told they're delayed everyday since then. The latest info from Ingram Micro is that they will be receiving a shipment of 60 machines on Feb 20. I hope they're right cuz that should mean we'll get at least one of ours a day or two after. I saw the new iMac at the interior design show yesterday in Totonto.

Very nice, amazing display (wish it was 1400x1080)

Couldnt play with it, it was part of a pretentious booth set up.

Now when will the retails get them!!!??

Well, I apologize for all the complaining posts I made about iMacs slow shipping to Canada.

Our local apple specialist got their demo model today and 4 iMacs to sell. I was #5 on the list.... but luckily someone ahead of me cancelled so I got the last one for a while. There is well over 100 people on the waiting list.

I am quite happy with this machine. As far as I can tell there are no dead pixels... but pixels are so small I'm not sure I'd notice. I really like LCD displays over the CRT. It is alsomuch more quiet than my old PowerMac 5500. Something I have not noticed in other postings is that the iMac comes with 1 blank DVD.

One of the workers there said the iMacs were recalled due to a problem with the wiring in the arm....but then the other guy said that was just a rumour.... heh, they probably surf these forums too.

At first I thought I may have some problem with the machine. I could not get the cable modem to work. Eventually I found out that that I had to release the IP address from the other machine before this one could grab one.

So hopefully more macs will trickle in soon.

I used a new iMac at a dealer in Nova Scotia about a week and a half ago now.

I've heard Apple is having problems with the powercord adapter and couldn't mass produce them very well.

    Who knows~
