Firewire HD on G3 PM?

My sister has an old G3 PM with a 20 gig HD. I've sent her my copy of Panther (don't need it as I have moved up to Tiger). She is going to use it mainly for pics, including some pro apps under Classic.

I have an external Firewire HD I'm not using. Can she use it for storing data? Would it be fast enough for her to use the internal HD for the OS and apps and the external for all data?

Finally, my original 667 TI PB is officially dead (airport security dropped it on the floor). Is there anyway that the PB HD could be used with an adapter to hold it in place?

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

Edit: It's a blue & white

They make 2.5" to 3.5" hd adapters that you can put into a desktop computer, we do it all the time.

    They are cheap.

Do you mean HD bay 2.5" to 5.25" bay adapter? I'm sure they do, just do a google searh. But clarify this question.

Your firewire drive is fast for both purposes. Lighting is happening 10 times every second for some reason !!! gotta go.

My memory says the B&W can't boot off of a firewire drive, so she'd always have to keep an internal to boot off of, which is kind of a drag since the firewire externals are so much faster than the IDE bus on the B&Ws. But for want you were going to use it for (extra storage), it should be fine.

Well, I know you can't hold down the <option> key at start up to get into disk selection mode. The B/W firmware didn't support it.

I believe that I have been successful, with a rev.1 in installing an OS onto a firewire drive, and booting. That was my main machine for a while, and it did work for me, you just have to select it in the start up disk pane.

If this problem needs further discussion, I can run a test, I've got 3 G3 B/W's at my disposal. I may have to eat my words, if I can't get it going again, without to much finaggeling (sp?)
