Tiger Problems

Two part problem, first of all today I was playing with dashboard widgets and installed a new itunes widget since the itunes widget that came with tiger runs extremely slow on my G4 Powerbook 1.5GHz with 1 gig of ram. Well after installing I found out it installed over the original itunes widget, so now how do I get it back?

Part two, after installing tiger, safari has been running extremely slow. Is this a known problem, if so is there a fix? Spotlight also runs really slow. My mom has a new Powerbook 1.67GHz with 512mb and spotlight and safari both run super quick. The newer Powerbook has a slightly faster processor than mine but I have a half a gig more memory. What is the deal here, how can I get tiger to run smoothly?

I do have the latest version of tiger 10.4.2.

thanks

Matt

You might want to locate the file on another's computer and copy it back over. Also, try Apple's site for that same widget, they might have an updated version of it ready to go.

You could also try booting from your installer disk and doing a custom install to see if you can pin point that exact widget.

So with Safari, try removing all program caches.

These are found in these places, only need to look at "safari" cache, or com.apple......safari.plist files:

    /Library/Caches/

    /~[home]/Library/Caches/

    /System/Library/Caches/

Also doing a safari: cookies, cache, history reset might help (in Pref pane)

I did manage to figure out the itunes widget problem. By running a spotlight search for widget folders I was able to find two folders that contained widgets. One folder located in library/widget contained the original Tiger widgets and the folder ~/library/widgets contains all downloaded widgets, and the widgets in ~/library/widgets over rides the Tiger widgets. Deleting the widget in my libray and reactivating the original itunes widget fixed the problem.

I also fixed the slow itunes widget with this post at macOSXhints.com. You might have the same problem I had if you have a lot of play lists.
