5th Gen iPod (with video): any hope for remote accessories?

Posted:
in iPod + iTunes + AppleTV edited January 2014
I use my 4th Gen iPod in my car with a RF remote control...which works great.

I'm mesmorized by the new iPod's thin profile and big screen, but see that there is no remote port next to the headphone jack as has been the case in previous iPods.

Anyone have any idea if remote control accessories will become available via the docking port on the bottom?

Considering that Griffin has built their entire money-making line is based on he remote port, i am sure that they will move stuff to the dock. The already released an itrip nano but it won;t work with the 5g because of its back part. personally, i think apple should have kept the remote port.

I probably posted my question prematurely. I checked out Griffin's web site and found that the will be shipping a 5th Gen-compatible AirClick with docking port connection in November...

Now I guess I have to decide if it's worth trading up from my iPod photo. But given my serious gadget-addiction, I am sure I won't be able to resist...

    From here on Apple's site:

...Oh, and you can do it all from across the room using the optional Universal Dock and handy new Apple remote.

did anyone read all the reviews on the apple site for that remote? I wish I had read a few before I took the plunge on the IR dock and remote. I love every apple product I have ever owned, and it is my job to maintain apple gear on a daily basis...I hate to admit that I am thoroughly disappointed in this product.

As you may have read by now, the menu button does nothing for ipods. All you can do is adjust volume and skip ahead or back and pause. The purpose of a remote control is to remotely control a device, it is of no use if you still have to get up to scroll through playlists or video selections.

While I am thoroughly disappointed, I am only really writing to voice my opinion in hopes that apple will rectify this situation, they have always been amazing with customer support, and I am sure they won't let something like this set them back, even a little... firmware update anyone?

you don't need a new iPod. Repeat, you don't need a new iPod. You can't just buy every new generation that comes out, that's insanity and zombie-like consumer electronics addiction.

you need your iPod to listen to music and play podcasts and whatev. I can do it with my 3g, it can be done with a 1st generation, and it can most certainly be done with a practically brand new 4th generation.

assuming you can sell your old iPod for $200 (assuming it's the smaller HD), that's still like $200 just so, uh, i'm not really sure. the money has to be better spent elsewhere. it just has to!

I just got the new one because i sold my brother the older one. He wanted the older one because he doesn;t have USB 2 and he didn't want to buy on ebay. I sold it for $100 less than a new one would cost me. Part of the reason it was so cheap, is i am lending him the money too.

I like the new one because of the lyrics feature and the blue dots for unlistended to podcasts. Videos are cool but i use my ipod in the car so i am driving and on the train where i am doing homework.

i'm very concerned that the 5g model has left no way of adjusting the volume/skipping tracks conveniently whilst on the go with the pod in your pocket/bag.

to remove a (essential!) feature like this seems like insanity! who wants to take the pod out of your pocket, out of it's case, turn off hold and use the scroll wheel to change volumbe, then put the pod back in its case, back in your pocket whenever you enter a shop or something and want to turn the volume down

am i missing something here by a LONG way?!?!?!? this if FAR from slick, cool and user friendly!

i really CAN'T be the only person on the planet (even in apple's r&d department) who thinks this is an inexpendable feature on a portable music player?!?!?!?!?

surely everyone at least WANTS this feature, surely?????

Even a dock connector pass-through that has the remote port built into it would be okay.
