Rumor Control: iMac all it's cracked up to be?

Posted:
in Current Mac Hardware edited January 2014
I got this email from Mom who reports:

"I heard over the news that Michael (???can't remember his last name, who advises consumers) advises prospective buyers of the new Mac to

wait. Some people are happy with it, and others are not happy at all--and the price will be coming down $500.00 soon, with fewer

features".

I mean, this is counter to everything I've read so far. Wanted to run it to ground...Mom smoking crack?

There are always unhappy people and grumps. This is not something new. I wouldn't worry about it.

There are two additional models at lower prices coming. $1499 without the Superdrive (a combo drive) and $1299 with CDRW Drive. They are shipping this month and next. Apple announced this when the introduced the new iMac.

Could i just say that the new imac has caused me no problems whatsoever in the 2 weeks (nearly ) that i've had it. It is the most beautiful machine to look at and use. Of course we can all carp and find small niggles but one look at my wealthy windoze owning brother - in-law's face when he saw it told me all I needed to know.

You won't be able to get the LCD G4 iMac for several years at $500 (except maybe used). There are reports of an LCD component shortage that will keep prices up for this year. The iMacs that will be at that price point will be the CRT G3 iMacs. It's an incredible machine. . . you won't be disappointed.

This iMac G4 is one very, very fine Mac. The screen is absolutely a joy to use, the near silence is a thrill (not quite up/down to a 450 Cube ) but wonderful. On my office desk next to that machine with a 15" LCD it looks very fine indeed. I am looking forward to seeing it play off against a Cinema display, but I'll have to wait to the end of the semester to try that! I am enjoying my colleagues shocked, delighted, and then envious expressions far too much.

Playing with iPhoto has been a joy. Photos soon

I love playing with the monitor, up and down, side to side, for several hours at a time. Ahhh... pure bliss.

I love mine too! The only flaw and I don't think it's the computer's fault is that AOL connects much slower than it did on my older iMac. But beyond that it's been perfect.

anyway, i guess you did win the lucky prize, considering no one else got the free firewire cable.
