can anyone tell me when combo iMacs will start shipping? Superdrive models are well and trully in the supply chain now, but I can't see any news of the combo's.
I'm in the same boat as you. Ordered my combo drive iMac on 1/9 and haven't heard a thing. When I ordered I expected to get it near the end of Feb, that's not looking very likely anymore.
Combos are supposedly shipping by next week. Quanta (Apple's manufacturer) is overwhelmed with orders at the moment. Pre-orders for all 3 models won't be fulfilled until May at this point since capacity seems to be 100,000 per month - once everything is running full speed (which it isn.t).
If capacity is 100,000 per month how is it that Apple is expected to sell 1.3m this year?

::'oh and one more thing' he remarked smugly under his breath as he carefully aimed his Sten at Pepper's face, pff -pff-pff. 'that'll teach him to question apple with math'::

100,000 (units per month) x 12 (months) = 1,200,000 or 1.2 million. so they're about a month behind... sounds about right to me based on experience so far.
still, it was marginally easier getting my imac2 than getting my playstation2 on its initial release.
For what its worth, just called Apple to check on my order status of my Combo drive iMac and was told that at the end of business today, if the order has not shipped then an email would be sent with a new estimated ship date. The operator had no real information regarding what the ship date would actually be.
Finally got my ship notice yesterday but I'm confused about something. In the fedex tracking the first scan location is Sacremento, CA. Aren't these being shipped direct from Taiwan? I did order extra memory, could that have something to do with it?
I believe all iMacs come from the factory in Taiwan with standard memory. Custom confis would only slow the production line (as if it wasn't already slow!) Apple adds the additional memory in Sacramento and sends the iMac on to the customer.
We got our Combo iMac on March 6, exactly 5 weeks after ordering. I got no email notification, I just checked the Apple web site regularly, and then followed the shipment with FedEx's tracking number. Took 48 hours to get out of Taiwan, and then about 24 to get to me! It's worth the wait.

Or: Apple will sell 1.3M and deliver 0.8M
How to get the current number of orders/sales, does anybody know?
