I cannot install this on my G5 DP2.0Ghz Rev B. I have tried to Software Update (showed as 57.8 MB) didn't work, it goes to install and says the package was moved to trash and sure enough it's there. I downloaded the 97MB and it won't install either says error has occured. I repaired disk permissions got a lonnnnnnng list and then restarted and tried the 97 MB again still no luck. Now my mail application won't work (opens but gives me a blank screen) and there's no telling what else doesn't work because I haven't sat down and opened anything else up. This sucks, I have never had a problems with updates even when I ran OS 9..... guess there is a first time for everything.
only weird thing is my fans keep kicking in - can't say I have noticed them very often ever before, and now i can hear them revving up every half an hour or so (only for a few seconds)
its probably a good thing heat-eliminating wise, but yeah... i think its a 10.4.3 thing.

I wonder what people are doing to their machines to get the panics and other wild symptoms which are definitely not the norm on a "normal" system.
One thing I rarely do, however, is shutdown my Mac. Or have any power failures (Switzerland power is remarkably good, surprise, surprise). I know a power failure takes years away from machines.

You are upset that Apple permanently disabled a disabled feature? Quartz 2D Extreme is not an official feature of Tiger. Never has been. It needs to be enabled using the developer tools. When, and if, Quartz 2D Extreme is finalized it will be included in a future update.
I've experienced intermittent choppy DVD playback with 10.4.3. This is reproducible on both my 2.0 GHz iMac with 2 GB RAM and my 1.25 GHz PB with 2 GB RAM. I know for a fact that this wasn't an issue with 10.4.2 as I watched movies with both nearly every day.
I downloaded the stand-alone Combo update from Apple and installed it on both of my Macs. I then repaired permissions on both before attempting DVD playback. I have noticed that the movie would stutter every few minutes. Is this behavior something anyone else has experienced? I'm also writing Apple and telling them about this issue.
Has anyone noticed now in 10.4.3 the Get Info window now specifies the architecture of the program? For example Command-I on Safari shows Architecture: PowerPC beneath the usual information.
Yeah we've already commented on that - it's definitely new! I think this makes it a lot easier for people to know if their programs work on both! Hopefully Aperture, iLife '06 and iWorks '06 are all universal binaries.

I did exactly one thing a while ago (6+ months, so it may no longer pertain to current versions and I don't want to dis the developer(s) of what appear to be pretty cool, but not exactly essential programs and m0dz), I removed all the Unsanity haxies and the APE Application Framework.
Presto. All the weirdness went away.
I like the APE framework and many of the haxies are highly neato. But I just don't have the time to dick around searching for obscure problems with no apparent resolution -- or waiting for another .dot update from UnSanity every time a new 10.4.x release arrives -- I need to USE my computers, like, NOW.
This is sorta a bummer since some cool programs depend on the APE framework for additional functionality, but the positives far outweigh the negatives in this case, for me anyway.
Has anyone noticed now in 10.4.3 the Get Info window now specifies the architecture of the program? For example Command-I on Safari shows Architecture: PowerPC beneath the usual information.
I believe somebody else had mentionned it earlier. Prior to this, the only way one could tell was to use the command \\usr\\bin\\ld to check the architecture(s) of a binary. Much nicer to have it in the Get Info window.
As for download, software update took a while before figuring out that it needed to download the 56M package for my 600MHz iBook. Maybe the larger ones are for the computers that support more features...

Quartz Extreme refers to GPU acceleration of the Quartz Compositor. Quartz 2D Extreme refers to GPU acceleration of Quartz 2D functions. They're two different "features".
It was an official feature but not for the reason you believe. Quartz 2D Extreme is not Quartz Extreme (see King Chung Huang's reply above).
Apple had at least one special session during last year's WWDC, dedicated to Q2DE that would appear in Tiger. However, when finally Tiger was released and Apple updated the OS X pages, Q2DE was missing from the new features. We soon found out that it was in place but disabled. Too much problematic for now it seems.
So, yes Q2DE was a promised Tiger feature from last year, but then Apple never put it publicly in the OS X description pages.

this is your problem. try reapir permission, if nothing chane use the "apple i" to change permission manually (make the framework read write to all)

Thanks for the info. I didn't want to update my wife's eMac before getting positive reports of EyeTV working with 10.4.3.
[edit: Just saw sloanlo's post about the EyeTV problem. Maybe I'll hold off updating the eMac a bit longer.]
I've seen more reports of EyeHome problems with 10.4.3 than with previous updates. It's been working fine for me through 10.4.2.

As far as Q2D Extreme goes, we found out during beta that it is NOT a good idea to turn it on with Quartz Debug.
Kernel panics out the wazoo if you do, requiring a complete reinstall.

I can attest to this, unfortunately.
Despite my post just above, I decided to see how fast QE2D was and enabled it (with the defaults write).
BAM, crash right after reboot and anytime afterwards.
Solution:
- Boot single-user mode (Option-s during power boot),
- then follow instructions on how to fsck and mount the / filesystem
- then "default write defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver Quartz2DExtremeEnabled -boolean FALSE"
No reinstall required. This is Un*x after all! ;-)
