Why do Mac Users have to pay for it for that matter?
It is a service, web hosting, backup, mail, all with a great ease of use.
Personally, Id rather just buy a co-located linux server, run a mail server and maybe apache and that could do everything I need, I could config with cpannel or SSH, but 99% of people are not that savvy, so the one click front end is nice for them.

I think Mighty Mouse is mine...so simple yet so wonderful.
I'm not doing a survey by the way - just looking for ideas to distract myself from my ineptness at managing Tiger OS
Even though it's a little over-priced I think .mac is something first time mac owners should consider.
Backup is great and easy to use.
Homepage is very very very easy
iDisk is nice for people who want to moves files from work to home or vice-versa
If you have multiple macs it's great for syncing them
a .mac email in mail is very very easy to setup
I think it has a lot of simple benefits that add up quick if you don't look at the obvious.

I'm not quite internet ready on my Apple. Is this a yearly subscription?
