I'm getting my first Mac!

I'm SOOO happy. I'm getting a new 933Mhz Power Mac with a 17" Apple Studio Display and the Apple Pro Speakers. I'm so exited!

It was ordered from the online Apple store today and I can't wait until it gets here. I live in MI about 45 minutes to an hour from Detroit. Can anyone who lives around the Detriot area tell me how long it took for there's to ship? I'm hoping it will be here by Monday but it's understandable if it isn't. If I knew where it was coming from I would know about how many days it would take because I work at a store where we ship UPS, FedEx, etc.

Oh and can anyone comment on the Apple Pro Speakers and/or link me a place where they reviewed them? I hope they're halfway decent... I was going to buy a used Cube off of eBay but I'm much more happy with this decision. I needed a computer that will last me about 6 years (2 more years of high school and 4 years of college [maybe more?]). Anyway I'm out of here for now. Talk to you all later.

Congrats, you'll love it. If you can, get an iSub for $59 at the Apple Store. The pro speakers alone don't pack enough punch. I got them with my flatscreen iMac and am glad I got the extra iSub. Without it they sound weak. With it....well lets just say my neighbors get a little annoyed. cheers and congrats again.

Thanks. I'll probably end up doing that. I was just going to wait and buy Sound Sticks but I told my dad to order it with the Apple Pro Speakers (hey I'm paying for it ). Do you think the Pro Speakers with the iSub will be close to the sound quality you get with the Sound Sticks, worse, or better?

EDIT: What is it with me today? Must be the anticipation.

First of all, congratulations on your purchase! I think you'll be very happy with it.

The Pro speakers are not audiophile grade, but they're good. Obviously, they don't rock the house, but they're clear and clean. I'm happy with them.

Obviously, a sub would improve them, but you should be aware that Apple only supports the standalone iSub for iMacs. I've heard from an Apple Store employee (sotto voce) that it works on other machines under OS X, but if it doesn't work for you, you're out of luck. Harmon-Kardon will be more than happy to sell you their SoundSticks package, which comes with a version of the iSub, but that's costly enough (ca. $200) that I'd only consider it if you were unhappy with the Pro Speakers and unwilling to try the iSub.

Good luck, and if you have any questions or concerns, ask away. Welcome to Macintosh.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. That's odd...but I think I'll still give the iSub a shot. I'm not really looking for something that's going to rock the house. Just something that will give me some decent bass and have clean and clear sound. I like the Pro speakers because they're small and nice looking. I'm hoping that they'll work out for me but we'll see. I'm definitely NOT going to miss this junky, 750MHz XP-Duron machine that is unstable and glitchy. The wait is unbearable but I think this is going to be the first of many Mac's for me.

I was under the impression that the iSub worked with any mac that didnt already have a USB speaker as you could only have one plugged in at a time (so that leaves the SoundSticks and G4 Cube out).... oh well.. good luck on your tower, you will love it...

At AIS Computer here (only Apple Retailer here) they demo the G4 tower with the iSub. It ought to work fine.

I recall reading that the iSub definitely does work on a PM, as long as you have pro speakers. I had one on my iMac, was great. But now I have Soundsticks!

Er. I know for sure that the iSub works with any slot-load iMac and Mac that uses the Pro Speakers (new iMacs and newer Power Mac G4s.)

<a href="http://www.harmanmultimedia.com"; target="_blank">www.harmanmultimedia.com says any slot-loading iMac, any iBook, 333 MHz or later PowerBooks, the G4 Cube, and Power Mac G4s will work with the iSub in OS 10.1.
