Is it me, or does the new iMac G5 uglier than previous iMac G5's?

Maybe I am disgruntle, , but I have seen the new iMac with built in iSight and I hate that black square at the top. Maybe I am not use to it but I have been around one for a while now and i think it takes away from the look a little.

Also, when did they change the location of the power button on the iMac G5?

In this revision. The ports arrangement was also changed; they used to be on the side, vertically.

I think the black thing is sexy. Gives it more personality.

I think it gives it a 2001, mini HAL 9000ish look.

It even takes pretty good pictures, for how small it is.

Oh, I'm sure someone will come along and invent a stylish patch to cover the cyclopean eye. Why don't you take a crack at it? Might make a few buck at it.

I don't even see mine. I'm too busy looking at the screen. Which is impressive!

I could not agree more. I saw one in person yesterday. The new display is just jaw-dropping.

I got my 20" last week. It's the most perfect mac yet, and I've gone through a lot.

Yes. The new one has much higher brightness and contrast. Actually higher than even the professional Apple displays.

Wow, that sucks even more! You new iMac guys are spoiled brats.

My wife's 20" apple display is awesome, I can't imagine anything being brighter and better looking than that.

Just don't count me in the iMac users. I am not yet one of them.

You can check the specifications for your own here:

iMac 20", typical brightness: 280 cd/m; typical contrast ratio: 800:1

Cinema Display 30", brightness (typical): 270 cd/m2; contrast ratio (typical) 400:1

The viewing angles are the same.

I don't know how is this translated in practice, but in paper the new iMac 20" blows anything Apple has to offer, at least in contrast ratio and brightness.

too bad the human eye can't really detect a difference once you get over 400:1 contrast ratio

Well, looking at both a brand new 20" Cinema disp. and the 20" imac right now, the imac actually does look a tiny bit brighter.
