You're welcome, Macgirl. The 960 is a good choice, you should stick with it. What pisses me off about HP is that while other brands are using more economical cartidges than they used to, HP is going in the other direction. The color cartridge now has 19 ml ink, while the previous had 25ml, and the one before that had almost 40! Luckily the 45A black cartridge is the same, but what that guy said abou the 940 is true-the black ink is a ripoff............................................ ....

steve,
that reminds me of a story. when i was a kid, my friends and a would buy a bag of chips for a quarter, and there would be enough chips in that thing to tide us all over til dinner. ...lol! now, for a quarter (if you can still get it for that price), there are exactly 3 chips in the bag. it's the secret inflation method. instead of raising prices, everyone is just giving you less for your money. i notice it a lot at the supermarket. but thats a good point about the ink cartidges.
anyway, how would you compare a canon to epson and HP? i may go check one out, but with the great rebate HP is giving me, im not likely to jump ship.
I have never been impressed with Canon printers. I always thought they were the worst out there-below HP, Epson, Lexmark. They have some new models out there which have been getting good reviews-the S750 and S800. We just put out a S750 but the sales rep hasn't put a demo module on it yet. I saw it at CompUSA and wasn't overly impressed with the demo though that i saw. I still think the 960 is the best out there. Do a Google Search-HP Deskjet 960 review. Very positive comments...........
im sticking with the 960... however, i found it somewhere else with a really good sale this week, and ordered it (free shipping, will arrive tuesday) and i will be saving enough money to justify returning the other unopened box.
note to self: pick up a USB cable while there.
btw, i bet you are really good at selling printers...
A few years ago I had an epson stylu photo 800. Nice printer and all, but a few difficulties with power in an isolated park left me with a printer which refused to let me change a dried up ink cartridge.
When I had to buy my next one I checked out a lot of magazines and at the time the one favored by most reviewers was the epson 870. I have used this printer for almost two years, and have gone through thirty five color cartridges and 9 black and white cartridges. The print quality is excellent using colorsync, and the quality with an 8 by 10 image from my coolpix 990 camera is superb.
The only thing I have a problem with is the cost of ink and the fact I cannot print on 11 by 17 inch paper. I recently discovered a way to get almost twenty five copies more out of a cartridge the printer claims is empty, but I also know you can get a larger (10 oz) resevior setup for about the cost of the printer.
Unlike problems with my old printers ink heads, I have never had a problem with this printer, even when it has sat unused for a month.
If you are considering a printer, I would suggest the c80, primarily because of the separate ink cartridges. I personally won't consider a new printer until epson makes a wide carriage version which has separate ink cartriges.

Thanks, I sell tons of printers! Where did you find that 960 on sale and how much is it? I can get a HP employee sales rebate for $50 but thats it................................................ ......

just got my new 960 today. but there was a $30 gift card offer on it, and a promo to save an extra $30 with my american express card. there's also the HP rebates worth $75 i am going to send away for. by the time im done, this will cost me next to nothing.
i was contemplating getting a scanjet 5700 also (since i could get $50 back on it) but after getting this printer, i have reconsidered. dont get me wrong-- it prints REALLY nice--but i was disappointed to not get any bells and whistles in terms of mac-compatible software. the box says it comes with all this software and that only some of will work with apple. but guess what-- none of it does. it's ok that it doesnt, but they didnt have to lie about it. anyway, i remember that my epson stuff always came with lots of free software for mac, and i would defn want a scanner that came with software i could use.
btw, i am a bit confused about printing on 4x6 photo paper. wasted a few sheets trying. i never realized how much the print menus had to do with the printer and driver, and not the OS...hehehehe. im lost in the new, completely different-looking menus, but i will figure out it.
You're welcome, enjoy it! I just sold my G4 so now I'm back to my PM 8100 and my trusty old HP 870 for a little while............................................. ......
got it, set it up, fully under os x. works great, beautiful prints even under 'toner save' mode- it takes about 30 seconds to warm up before ANY job, but it prints consecutive pages very quickly. the drivers still aren't final .30 so speed will (and apparently has been) increasing.

thats it, im officially going to kill myself. the only reason i passed up the deskjet 990 was because i figured i'd never be able to use bluetooth. ah, f(*^@#($#))*$#(@.
the damn bluetooth adapter would only be the price of 2 usb cables. damn... i think im gonna go see if i can exchange the printer...

Appleworks 6 and Adobe Acrobat reader both have double sided printing.
Now all I have to do is find a supplier of bulk toner.
