In keeping with your price range you might want to look at the Canon SD450 a 5 Megapixels camera. The picture quality is very good and the compact design makes it easy to carry where ever you are going. Uses SD Memory card and a second battery your be good for the day.
Also in the price range is the Kodak V530, it is also a 5 Megapixels camera that uses SD Memory card. While I owned Kodak in the Past (DC4800 was the last), I find them to be very good cameras, but I know lean to canon current line of digital cameras.
