Is this a good mouse?

I just bought a new mouse for my gaming, internet navigation, and other application needs. I decided to go with the Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer for a total of $50. I decided to buy that one because a) I don't need a wireless mouse when the USB port is right on the keyboard. b) It matches the Quicksilver tower . And c) because of the programable buttons. Most of it was based off of the fact that it matches the computer though . Anyway has anyone had any bad experiences with this mouse or would you recommend I take it back for a better one? Thanks for all of your imput.

Everyone I know that has it likes it. I've used it before at friends' houses and it's pretty good.

well, if anyone's interested, there's one just like it made by yahoo that i saw in the states recently, for about $35.

The IntelliMouse Explorer is a very, very good mouse, stay with her.

M$ should give up windows and carry on as hardware vendor, doing a much better job there.

Isn't that because they bought the HP mouse division lock-stock-and-barrel? I guess since they couldn't (directly) buy their way into the OS market... yeah.

Anyway, I have both a Logitech MouseMan Dual Optical and the wireless version of the same. I love the feel of them, though I like the wired version much better than the wireless one (too much hassle, IMO).

They have 4 buttons and wheel, which is sufficient for me, and both the buttons and the wheel felt better to me than the MS products. One person I know actually went so far as to put new springs in his MS mouse because the original springs wouldn't pop the buttons back up after a click (that happened within 4 months of purchase). He then went on to say that it was a hell of a mouse (with the improved springs).

Hi Ender. (inspired by Orson Scott Card?)

@ work I use an IntelliMouse Explorer since last year. More than 200 days packed with 8 to 15 hours of work and the mouse is still fine. Its big enough for my large hands, the Logitechs are excellent but a bit to small for me, but that's my personal problem. So I choose the M$ mouse and never regret that. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

Yeah, I would prefer my 4 year old Kensington 4button mouse, but it is ADB.

This mouse optical, USB and a scroll wheel -&gt; Perfection. (You read this Kensington? Build it and I buy it. At once )

    Bye

I have had my Intellimouse for 2-years and not had a problem with it.

Between the Logitech Dual Optical and the MS IntelliMouse Explorer, you can't lose. Go down to your local comp shop and play around with each. Whichever feels better is the winner.

(I personally use the Logitech Dual Optical)

The Logitech would definately win. The shape fits hands so great (it's the same shape as my Logitech Optical Wireless).

Wow, I was contemplating not going with the Logitech mouse because I thought it was too big. You must have large hands indeed if you are of the opinion that it is too small.

(yeah, Ender came from OSC's Ender's Game)

And EmAn, I wouldn't call any mouse out there right now a definite winner. I have issues with every single mouse I've tried so far. With my Logitech, I hate how the mouse cord is 6 feet long, when it only needs to go 6 inches or thereabouts. I know PCs don't often have USB ports on the keyboard, but it would be nice if they just included a USB extender like Apple does. Also, I wish that there was a button like the 'thumb button' on the right side so I could have a forward button on my mouse to compliment my back button.

But hey, if there was a perfect mouse, I wouldn't ever buy another until USB is as antiquated as ADB/Serial is now.

I'm sorry... I should've stated my post differently. IMO, out of the two mentioned I think the Logitech would win.

Speaker for the dead, the logitech is a bit too short to be comfortable. The IntelliMouse owns a thumb button at the right side, but that button is usable for left-handers, but I can't use it really, it should be placed at the corner to the front (is there a better idiom to explain that? It's a long time since my last english lesson).

Kensington placed 4 buttons at the top and you can use two buttons clicked at the same time as a fifth and sixth button. But they won't build it as an optical USB device with scroll wheel. That would be a really cool 7(!!!) button mouse, great for playing Diablo II.

Clicking two at once would confuse me to no end. All I really need is 4 buttons + scrollwheel w/ click. Though I rarely use the click action on my mouse at the moment.

But yeah, more buttons are great for DII. I am sooo addicted to that game. And it should be X-compatible within the next couple of weeks!

Whew, glad to know I'm not the only one still geeking out in the World of Sanctuary! I've uninstalled it a couple times thinking I was done with it, then came crawling back when no other game gave me the same fix!

I have an Intellimouse Trackball Explorer that I love, especially with a cramped desk.

Still waiting for OS X Intellimouse drivers, though.

I just started playing it a couple months ago. What the best set up for the mouse? I've got a 3 button one. When is the OS X patch coming out? I can't wait...

The DII OS X patch is scheduled for "First Quarter 2002."

With three buttons I'd have left attack, right attack, and show items.

The absolute key for me is a scroll wheel. You can cycle through your hotkeyed skills in a flash!

You get used to click two at once. I always try it with the IntelliMouse and wonder why nothing happens

Fourth button is lifesavin in Diablo II. You can use as an easy access to healing potions, works most of the time while fighting!

Diablo II for X is advertised at arktis (german webstore), should be ready the next days. At the moment I play it @ PC, I must admit. :o

I found one little nag using the IntelliMouse Optical (the old one). Never ever use a blank white glossy paper as mousepad, the pointer is jumping most of the time and won't move the rest of time.

But rosewood or even polished stainless steel is working fine.

I've heard the new ones have a higher resolution and a higher picture rate, good enough for hardcore gaming. Will test it once my iMac is here.

I've tried both the Intellimouse Experor wired and wireless ones, and I don't like either. When it comes to looks, I don't care. Sure, those mice look good, but I'm looking at the computer screen 95% of the time... not where my hand is resting.

The main reason I dislike those mice though are the ergonomics. Microsoft seems to think that mice are supposed to mold completely to your right hand (I feel sorry for lefties). I disagree with this. When I use my mouse, I like it resting on the tips of my fingers, while the base of my palm rests on the table. When I have the mouse entirely in my hand, I can't seem to control it as well. It's like making a pencil to fit the whole size of your hand. It wouldn't work, because you'd lose control of your writing. You write much better when the pencil rests lightly in your finger tips. I believe the same goes for mice... but the Intellimouse mice have a larg hump that is supposed to support your palm... and ackwardly force your whole hand to rest on the mouse.

Secondly, I don't like how the buttons feel on the mice. They're way too soft. If I attempt to just rest my hand on the mouse without using it, I almost always accidently right click, or hit one of the thumb buttons. That is extremely annoying. And when I do make clicks, they don't feel nice and crisp as just about any other mouse.

And I do not reccomend their Wireless Exporer at all. My friend bought one, mainly because of its looks and the concept, and I was disgusted at the latency. The mouse feels so laggy, I wouldn't even be able to use it, but my somewhat computer-ignorant friend didn't care. Plus you have to change batteries... yuck.

I just have a nice, simple blue Logitech, 2-button, wheel mouse that I love. It's small, so it rests comfortable on the tips of my fingers. The buttons are crisp and firm, so I don't accidentally click them when I rest my hand on the mouse. And it has a wheel, which I couldn't do without. It was only about $30 or so.
