So? He was also talking about iPhoto and thats not available on Windows or Linux, Linux has it's own FREE tools as well, so I think that's valid alternative
It is a valid alternative, and it also has a very nice photo management program (F-Spot), but this thread is more like a continuation of another thread where Picasa and iPhoto were discussed.
Does Google ever make anything or do they simply buy stuff and put it out in the open on the infinite beta track?
I use Picasa at work on a PC as an attempt to replicate what I get with iPhoto. I can't stand Picasa so I will never know how these threads keeps starting. And here I am adding to it.
The thing is that iPhoto for me with 1198 photos, is great on my Powerbook. I use Picassa in my daughter's game PC and it is good. But the performance difference is not that great. Picassa lacks some things that iPhoto does. It is just a matter being rational about it.
Ummmm...you can teach my mom how to monipulate crontab, manage differant kernal versions, use apt get/RPM and so on if you feel so inclined, but for her, I think it should JUST WORK...
And while I am upgrading her to Linux, maybe I will replace the d-link SOHO router with a Cisco 25xx with dual AUI (and AUI->RJ45) and run the cable modem through that...
Theres this little thing called the worlds most popular search algorythum...and advertixing model...
Well, yeah...obviously...I was referring to all these free new things like GMail, Picasa, Google Earth...
Seems like they are piling out a lot of stuff, which they buy, in a hurry and keeping it all beta. Doesn't it seem like a big pile of heroin growing bigger everyday until someday...??
Oh that's right, I forgot. One of the items in their mission statement is not to be evil...
Which of those did they buy? I was under the impression that the only purchase in those 3 is the audio technology for GTalk, the rest of the client I don't think was purchased.
Personally, I love the speed of Picasa, but I don't really like the interface all that much. The way that it organizes all of the folders and stuff in the main window and such. I haven't fooled around with it hardcore, but it was 'ok.'

What do you think is lacking from the Desktop and Web e-mail readers?

Linux is free. Why don't you recommend that?

If you're upgrading her to Linux (I don't know if you were joking or not), introduce her to F-Spot. Wonderful program.
the last paragragh (about the router) was sarcastic...I guess the humor is lost on non-networking nerds...

They purchased Picasa and Google Earth.
So... you didn't get 2 out of 3?

He said "GMail, Picasa, Google Earth". Picasa and Google Earth originate to a very large degree from acquired companies.
Anyone think Google make a Mac Picasa?
Hey at any rate competition is good.
And I bet Core Image will speed up iLife immensely for all you lucky bastards with a phat graphics card. You lucky bastards.
